I was so excited to read this but when I got to the mogstation it says that this can't be done with PS3s. Ugh!Note that you can indeed befriend and trade between characters on the same Square-Enix account. You just can't do this between characters on the same service account. I have two service accounts under my Square-Enix account, and use a set of "mules" to store additional items on service account 2. It costs more per month, but it is worth it for my needs.
Edit: I just wanted to clarify the terminology before someone makes a new account, when all they have to do is add (and activate) a second service account in the Mog Station.
I really wish SE would fix this. If they want some association between characters before we can send mail, there should be a combination of ways to qualify: alts on our own account, people on our friends list, people in the same FC, etc. After all, they're charging us extra every month for the right to have multiple characters on the server. Not being able to directly share items between them feels like being denied what we're paying for.

Until very recently, there actually was a workaround where you could befriend your own characters and as such, mail items between them.
It involved logging out inside of an instance, switching to an alt, and then friending your other character (which was shown as "online" in the instance).
SE patched it the other day however. Can't have people being able to move items to their own characters easily now!
