Your probably one of those people that doesnt work, is on welfare, and mooches off the government. Meh, instant gratification right?

Instant gratification is fine.
I like booking my laundry times and just having to appear at the right time to instantly do my laundry.
I like taking my car to places instead of waiting at a bus stop and then changing 2 times to reach my destination.
I like buying my lunch during weekdays instead of cooking it each prior evening.
I like buying my games, instead of programming them from the ground up.
In most cases it is better if you don't have to do a lot of extra work and waste time.
There is nothing wrong with instant gratification
I stopped reading at this.
To me, I think the title of the OP's thread is a bit misleading. It sounds to me more like they want things fixed in a timely manner. This relates more to good service imo, than instant gratification. The part where they mention running a dungeon 60 times is excessive, I mean 60 times? Either way instant gratification is wrong in all sorts of ways. It is honestly what is wrong with the younger generation(s) of society today. If you cannot get what you want right when you want it, you throw fits or quit which sets a path for quitting and failure a lot of times in other aspects of life. I live by the philosophy of "the greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph." Life is not fair btw, people do not care about other people. You are not a special snowflake, therefore, you will not always get what you want how you want it or when you want it. My advice, learn to cope with it, otherwise life for you will be miserable.
FFXIV:ARR coming to iOS and android soon!
This dudes got jokes!
Modern mmos give every kid a trophy for participation. It doesn't matter if you suck. You don't have to work hard. It doesn't matter if you lost. Did you have fun? Here, have a trophy.
No, modern life is giving every kid a trophy for participation. Its the downfall of society as everyone is rewarded for doing nothing thus making nothing acceptable by economic standards.
All i've gotta say to the thread creator is... you must be new to JRPGs.
There is nothing wrong with some instant gratification.
There is a major issue when it is the core concept of any game.
Without hardwork everything you have is meaningless. Without work everyone has everything. Image football if everyone just ties in the end. Or LoL/SC where every match forces you to tie so everyone wins. IT is the trophy for everyone which is a problem in not just mmos, but society as a whole. Without Losers you have no winners. Without work you have no reward. In the past freeloaders or people who wanted an easy ride where looked down apon... now it is expected that they are to be catered too... I just ask why and how did we all let that happen.
Oh, for the days when kids were called losers if they struck out in Little League or threw a game-losing pick 6 in Pop Warner. Being berated by teammates built character and if they offed themselves, no big deal. The world's not built for losers, right?
See, I can throw out absurd arguments as well.
On topic, I don't think the thread starter was arguing against delayed gratification as much as arguing for some balance between instant and delayed gratification. If anything, FFXI showed that overly depending on delayed gratification can have negative effects as well (see: Mythic Weapon requirements, Voidwatch, Dynamis before it was opened up).
