Free hint: trying to corner the market in a mid-level equipment item that gets handed out by every third quest is not intelligent. And buying up all the lower priced items isn't really a solution either. I tried doing that with cotton coifs. I bought all of them that were on offer below 1000 gil. Now I'm stuck with 30 or 40 cotton coifs in my inventory, and a few days later there's 50 more people selling them for 1 to 5 gil.
Trying to corner it at a price twice what it costs to buy it from the NPC vendors is even less intelligent.

It's the way that market capitalism works.... Sucks to be the little guy, doesn't it?
On a related note, and not directed at anyone in particular, I wonder how many people complain about undercutting in a video game, yet shop at Wal-Mart in reality, a company that actively undercuts and harms the real-world market in the same way, every day. Just a thought.
When the world was young, the Sun bestowed upon me his crown; always will I light your darkest hour.

Always entertaining to read threads like these. I always wonder how I continue to make gil using mostly the same strat. Its because half of the sellers on the market are clueless.

You're giving them too much credits...IMO, more than half of them are clueless...

lol...I was selling Hard Leather at x10 for the first week.
I was selling cinnamon at 20x the first week. bought for 4g each and selling at 80g. and same thing for undyed hempen cloth. Now I've move to undyed cotton cloth at 3x. Though I'll admit the market is starting to stabilize more now. Just waiting on getting a level 50 leatherworker soon.

First of were they "Crystals" or "Shards" if they are crystals well that's part of the problem. People don't buy as many crystals since you need like 5,000 shards to level and im not even sure you need crystals to level 1-50 crafting. Thus people only buy them to craft things for profit or for themselves being there mostly used on higher level items.
With that being said if 500 crystals are 70gil per and 20 crystals are 150 gil per (just an example) I would still buy 500 crystals being that I know id use them and well now I don't need to buy them for a couple weeks.
Solution to your problem of them not selling would be to charge 70-80gil and have them sell nearly instantly to the person who just need enough to make a particular item.
