In no way am I criticizing you. I applaud your English abilities! I fully understood what you said, so for the point about generally communicating, yes, English (as any language) is easy. Mastery, nope. Sadly, English is a horrible language. More so than German because how you read/write it vs. say it can vary.

this can be true for any regional differences in the language (dialect). You may not even understand 1/30 of the words of typical Viennese, even if you speak german very well.

Plus, if I wish to be elitist, I can render sentences in English you'd have to have a Masters degree to understand. It is a horrible, cruel language, but therein lies its beauty. And unlike French, English absorbs all the other languages.
