Question regarding Forbidden Melds

Hello everyone,

I'm starting to look into some other avenues for tertiary stats via accessories but I had a concern which I am hoping to have addressed:

After your open slots are filled and you begin Forbidden Melds - once a Forbidden Meld is applied, can a single Forbidden Meld Materia be removed or replaced without impacting other FM slots? I ask because I intend to use some lower-ranking Materia until I can afford stronger variants to replace them.

No, sadly it's all or nothing. If you want to remove materia, you lose all of it (but you get to keep the base item) and need to start over.

I wouldn't bother attaching lower level materia to an item you intend to keep, unless you are near the stat cap for that attribute (thus cannot gain the full benefit of a higher tier materia) and have nothing else you want to attach.
