Agree. It's all too easy to blame game mechanics nowadays...

For some unknown reason, a lot of players just keep narrowing themselves to one "fastest way to get to lv50" method, disregarding everything else because they are "not as fast" as FATEs. Why just focusing on "fastest"/"most effective" instead of the "most fun"? Isn't "fun" the reason we play a game?

Start a DF queue. While queuing, craft a bit, or run around for gathering. When DF hits, have fun, greed or need on all sorts of armors, there are so many cool ones to collect, for all your future classes...If FATEs happens, join if you like, not if you don't. Treat FATEs are more like random bonus, instead of camping it to happen...
Do some leve in betweens...
Talk to every NPC with a name overhead...approach those NPC without a name overhead, and read what they say...try to get to some rooftop, explore a bit, take some screenshots...
Try mix and match armor pieces, for vanity slots will come...try to dye them too...
There are so many things to do.

Just don't play a game like a job or homework...
