New to the game and need some help!

    Hello,
I have several questions which hopefully someone could answer. (Keep in mind that I've never played FF before so I don't know the game, map, etc

    (1) Is there some way to put in a way point to a location you want to go, and it show up on your map?

Other games have a way to do this but I can't find any way on this game. I'm looking for a way that puts a point on the map so I can head toward it. Like /way xx, yy

    (2) I'm having problems finding where I can get approval to begin harvesting/mining. I've read that I need to "join" the guild for the land. When I asked in the shout, a few people gave me a place where the guild is located. That town isn't on my map, nor can I find any info on how to locate this town.

    (3) I'm thinking of purchasing one of the strategy guides, hoping that end some of the frustration I'm feeling trying to play the game. Are there any good ones out there?

I'm sorry for the long post.

    Thanks

PS .. If there is a guild out there who would like to adopt me, please let me know!

    1. There is no way to automatically move your character to a specific location, apart from where aetheryte crystals, airship/ferry npcs, and chocobo porters will take you.

    2. You have to complete the level 10 class quest for the class you started as before you can change classes. After finishing that quest, you can talk to the NPC at any of the guild counters to officially join their guild and receive another gear set. Technically though, you only have to buy the main hand for the class you want and equip it, but you still have to finish your initial class's level 10 class quest.

    3. I don't know how helpful the strategy guides are, but there's a plethora of information online. xivdb.com, xivwiki.com, gamerescape.com to name a few good fansites.

    1) Currently there isn't but it is a feature I see requested quite a bit, so hopefully it will be added at some point.

    2) The botanist guild is located in Gridania, which, if your profile is correct, is the town you started in as Archer. It is in the northwest part of Old Gridania, I believe the name on the map will either be Greatloam Growery or Botanist's Guild. The Miner's Guild is in Ul'dah, and you might want to do your story quests until level 15 and you get your Airship pass before unlocking that so it is easier to get around.

You likely can't see Ul'dah on your map since you haven't been there yet, but I believe you can look at the Region map button on the map menu to see how the zones are connected so you can see how to get there. Still, I recommend getting the airship pass instead.

As Orophin mentioned, you have to do your level 10 class quest before you are able to unlock more classes.

    3) I wouldn't waste money on any strategy guides. You can find information for the game all over the internet. I believe this website here has some good newbie information.

    Hope this helps.

the first reply said mostly everything

    1. no waypoint system, my advice is use the quest tracker/ journal to locate the quest NPC's this will have a map option that shows you the general location of a quest or NPC on you map and mini map then just head in that direction!

    2. same, after you are able to switch classes you can find each guild in one of the three starting area's or city states, (you wont be able to reach them until you unlock the quest that allows airship travel) so if you rolled a class in Limsa you can't access any gathering class until airship travel is available as both miner and botanist are located in Ul'dah and gridania.

    3. I advise against spending money on a strategy guide tbh after level 50 you will realize that the beginning of the game from lvl 1 to 50 and main story is just one big strategy guide! its designed to teach you how to play and become comfortable with the class you choose to main!

That last part's not true. You cannot simply get a weapon/tool for a new class and equip it until after you've unlocked that class. It's that initial quest at the class's guild that unlocks the class. (Even the starting weapons have a level 1 requirement, and until you've unlocked it, you're listed as level 0.)

he wasn't saying you can just equip a weapon before you officially join a guild, he clearly stated that in order to officially join a guild you need to speak to an npc at said guild! i don't think he mean't that you can just equid any weapon without first joining to the guild of said class!

You do need to finish the level 10 class quest on your first class in order to unlock the Armory System, which allows you to save gear pre-sets for each class you unlock. So unless you want to change each piece of gear every time you change class, you need to do the level 10 quest.

And in order to gain a new slot in the Armory System you need to do the quest to unlock the class. Which is simply equipping the weapon and talking to an NPC. Also they give you the first weapon free so you don't have to buy anything.

Basically, just do the level 10 class quest, unlock the Armory System, then unlock the other classes at each guild the proper way. It's the easiest and best solution.

    .
No. The Armory System isn't just your gear sets. It's the whole system of being able change class by changing your primary weapon/tool. Until you do the level 10 class quest for your starting class, you cannot change class. At all. The other guilds will not give you the quest to activate their class.

But you can buy a weapon and do it that way. You just can't save the gear set.

Unless they changed things from phase 3. You could certainly do it then.

Maybe I just phrased things poorly but you're not actually contradicting me. That's basically what I'm saying.

I'll test it tonight when I get home. I have a low-level character I can try it on.
