Fate bugged?

Hello I'm just posting because I discovered something that feels like an exploit.
I was doing the FATE "Breaching North Gate" and when the boss type sahagin appeared, I was getting destroyed so i went past the gate and while he looses all aggro on me, it's being taken by the friendly NPCs in the FATE. Where I see the problem is that once i loose that aggro, I can come back and attack at full force and will not take the hate from the NPCs, when normally I take hate in like 5 attacks. I was wondering if this is working as intended or an actual exploit, so I can avoid doing so?
