"If it is a sin to covet honor, I am the most offending soul" ~Shakespeare
Beach time! Normally I'll make do with gear I can get in-game, but the yukatas on MogStation were too nice to pass up.
Also: found an actual use for that weird backwards lean at the end of the "bow" emote.
Also also, please forgive the incoming multi-post spam; it seemed easier to keep different things in different posts.

I got to WHM level 50 and completed my "forest mage" glamour. Still not fully decided on the boots - currently using the Expeditioner's Moccasins that match the coat, but their default appearance has a red band at the top, and I couldn't dye them to a colour I was really happy with.
This is just the 'cast item' animation, but it gives a really pretty effect!
And with my costume finally complete and these screenshots taken, it was time to possibly ruin it....
Character design is Serious Business as far as I'm concerned, so I don't normally change my character's appearances, but it's been bothering me for a while that Amalthis's hairstyle is a bit overused (six NPCs have it by my count, four of them Elezen) and it also clips through prettymuch every shirt he wears.
So I was hoping to find something else similar, just a bit shorter, nothing drastic. I was really hopeful about that recent PvP hairstyle but it didn't look that good on him in the end. Most of the styles in the length I wanted covered up his tattoo, and I didn't like that.
And after too many searches through the list hoping that something would miraculously appear, I started thinking that one of the styles I'd skipped right over was actually... maybe... really quite good on him despite being not at all what I (or he, I think) was after.
So, since I feel like I can't just do something like that without justifying it within the story, I'm blaming it on Jandelaine, who (when being used as a character rather than a game utility) doesn't seem to much care what his customers want but has an uncanny knack for what they need. However much they protest.
And he thinks Amalthis, having just resolved some inner turmoils in the course of the bard questline, is in need of an entirely more dramatic change to reflect that.
So.
This is going to take some getting used to. For both of us.
I keep fluctuating between "that really does suit him" and "oh goodness all his pretty hair is gone, why did I do that to him"....
(It does, unfortunately, look rather hacked from behind, and his pale hair colour probably makes it worse. I don't know what was going on there at a programming level, all the other short styles look much better. Maybe they used up all the allowance of how many 'pieces' can go into a hairstyle making the front look good.)
Anyway I do like that it's not hiding his scar any more (symbolic character development and all that) and just makes his face more visible from that side. Also it still has a little of his previous look with the loose strands hanging down on the left.
At this point I feel like I need to back up and mention story context for him, which is basically the lancer and bard quests (so spoilers for that):
He was wounded during that last unwilling fight against Foulques, and the memories of that day - of Foulques' death just as he might have been reasoned with - have haunted him since, to the point that he gave up being a lancer entirely. His scar has been a visual reminder of that, and he's covered it up as much as he can.
But then there's the bard quests (which I hadn't played at the time of working out the earlier part!) - where in the generic version the WoL helps Jehantel deal with his past trauma, but in this case they each help the other, and now he's more at peace with those memories.
And so now, on a lonely cliff in the North Shroud, a new bard plays a true Foe's Requiem...
Meanwhile, over in the all-important issue of glamour, I'm still trying to decide whether I like the bard relic gear or not. I've redyed everything repeatedly and I can't decide whether the tights suit it or whether they're awful (would appreciate more of a skirt built into the sash!!!). I liked the hat but it hid his face too much, so the circlet seemed like a good compromise.
I'm pleased to see it hasn't ruined the look of his white mage costume either, though the crown is more necessary than it was before.
(Also you know that thing where you manage to get an awesome looking pose and think "this would make an amazing night shot" just as dawn breaks over where you're standing, so you have to wait all day... yeah. That.)
Oh goodness look at his hair it was so nice before and it's all gone never mind the story relevance why did I do thaaaaaaaat..........
and because I've made it a Significant Thing, I feel like I can't just change it back. Also it suits him. I think. Some of the time. :/
Also, I've discovered the weird and hilarious thing that is the "doze while sitting" emote.
Normal doze while standing is as understated as the rest of their emotes:
yes I did change his hair again just to take this picture...
But while sitting....
What is this.
I mean, seriously what.
I don't think there are any actual emote-expressions that make them do anything like it.
I wondered if it might be a generic animation that's the same for all races, though I tested it with my Au Ra and he doesn't pull any faces at all. (A pity, I wanted to see him do it!)
