When Companies were first mentioned I thought they were going to be player based groups that would have a common shared area. A place to keep all yourshared items, achevment banners. Also used as a place to meet up before a party. An instanced "mog house" which would be shared by friends. More of a common room with a couch and a fireplace than a bedroom anyway. You would have your own inventory of course, but there would also be a shared inventory chest where you could place low level gear and crafted items to share with your friends.

This would also work as a mailbox, you would place an item in the shared inventory for your friend to retreave once they log in.

Once you unlocked achevements with your group you could place the banners and flags on the walls of your shared club house to signify your achevements. Maybe this can still be done in a subsection of the Grand Company, a “company faction”. I am imagining a group of 8-10 players.

banners would add benifits to the faction here are some examples:

increase exp gain
lower npc prices
lower weakened timer
increased movement speed in town
add elemental resistance
increased crystal drop rate
regiment acc +
regiment att+

On a less informal version of this you would be able to lease items placed in the inventory bank for a certain amount of time before it was returned automatically to the bank. This would ensure nobody ran off with the faction’s praised “Kracken Club” or whatever multi-hit weapon that is added to this game later on. Oh yeah also ADD MULTI HIT WEAPONS!
