    Answer me this last question.

Prior to the whole wiping incident, was the progress of the run endangered in any other way aside from a people speaking a different language to each-other?

I agree, the whole wiping thing, or even argumenting would not need to happen but if their conversation isn't hurting the run itself and they keep doing what must be done just let them do their thing.
I've played games which relied on partymechanics heavier than this one, I've partied with people from all over the world speaking countless of languages I did not comprehend.
But as long as their converations did not hurt the party mechanics in any way there was no reason for anyone to speak up about it and in my experience, if they said something that was directed at me or any other person in the party or alliance that doesn't speak their language, they will switch to English.

That said, what happened to you is fairly exceptional (I hope).

It matters not how the dungeon was going.

The majority of the world speaks english. For good or not the primary language for most people is english.

As ive said, it isnt a matter of whether their chosen language was ''hurting'' the dungeon, but how the request to speak english TO the group, was taken as insulting.

If everyone in the group could see two people were speaking directly to each other and therefore could in fact understand each other - nobody would care much less say anything about it.

And as for ''if they were speaking to you, they would speak in the recipients own langauge'' is complete rubbish. I could not even tell you how often ive been spoken to directly in a language i didnt understand. All the while unable to tell them in THEIR language i cannot understand them.

I would NEVER demand perfect spelling or grammar. Never. As long as i can understand you, you can speak in as much broken english as you like and i wont even notice.

Then healer or not, I would have personally taken a slightly more polite approach.
It goes both ways, in my eyes you were rude as well by "demanding" of them that they spoke English, even if you didn't mean to be.

In game conversation is still text based, one cannot discern the emotion behind a written text.
A few added words could have made the convo, and the run go into a completely different direction.

Just back to square one, are we. I told you why what you said might have been a bit insulting. Whether you see it as reasonable insult or not matters not - many cultures are very different, in lots of ways you can hurt person's feelings and not even notice it. Now the person in question showed his knowledge of English, thus if need be, he would response with the translation. What you don't realize is that wording, even if completely normal to you or your culture, could be not normal for sensitive individuals from other cultures. Not "English pls" but "i dont understand you" might make a world of difference. Not that much more letters there, if you can't stand a bit behind and type that then don't bother, them answering will actually take even more time if that's somehow related to dungeon.

Been using those words for years. It is only recently in THIS game have anyone taken offense to it. If you were to also take offense, you would be a minority.

That being said, i have to say this game has bred really unusual behavior for a MMO. I have been playing MMO's for many many years, yet the things people do and say in this game... are completely new to me.

EDIT - And holy crap my spelling is bad tonight rofl!

The thing is, what I have noticed in this game as I have played several MMO games in the past myself, this game has brought people from several other MMOs together.
Like countries, every MMO has their own culture and uses.
What was deemed acceptible in one game can be completely insulting in the other. And of course there are the rotten apples from every society.

And it's not that I am offended nor would I resort to violence, but I do take being told off like that as rude.
And in-game I would have probably started the exact same debate with you as we are having here.

There is no way, at all, you'll convince the OP that speaking another language socially is acceptable.

We all agree wiping the group is bad...

... but these aren't English servers, they're EU servers, and as a result expect to see multiple spoken languages.

"And as for ''if they were speaking to you, they would speak in the recipients own langauge'' is complete rubbish. I could not even tell you how often ive been spoken to directly in a language i didnt understand. All the while unable to tell them in THEIR language i cannot understand them."

Poor you. Put yourself in their shoes. It works both ways.

"English pls" is rude to people who don't speak English natively.

From what i understand, the server i am on is a North American one, based in Canada.

EDIT - Anyway, I have expressed my dismay at some people's attitude in the Duty Finder, so i must go to bed.
