Wait, why are people bringing up the armoire/armory system? You mean stuff you put in that can be shared among other characters? Otherwise I don't see how people are circumventing the myth cap.

I've only read about half of this thread but I realized I agree with the OP. I love only having one character for all of the classes but having one for each class does make gearing them easier. Darklight is plenty good I won't take away from that, but I do feel like they should make using the armory system more appealing next to having multiple characters.
If they removed the cap, some people would be rocking full BiS gear in a week or two, and near-full BiS gear would become the hivemind's "minimum acceptable standard." For both the longevity of the game and to allow people to have a long-term goal to work towards rather than binge-farming all in one burst, the cap keeps that in check.
I'm fine with the way it is now, but if we were forced to have some sort of an alternative to the weekly cap, I'd prefer that SE remove Mythology tomestones from AK entirely (and make them drop only from Coil and Crystal Tower), rather than allowing people to gear up in full AF2 simply by spamming AK. The best gear in the game should not be all farmable from an easy dungeon in a single week.

I'm sorry but this is wrong Full relic is not BIS, last I checked a few pieces of relic for each job was BIS and then Allagan to fill the rest correct me if I'm wrong. So without a cap we would be able to get the few pieces we need make relic+1's for more than one job.If they removed the cap, some people would be rocking full BiS gear in a week or two, and near-full BiS gear would become the hivemind's "minimum acceptable standard." Isn't the goal to gear up and do coils for Allagan. So even if there was no Cap Allagan is still mostly the BIS and you sure as hell aint gearing that in a 1-2 weeks unless you got some mad luck.

AF2 is not the only end game gear.Your alt job on the same character will have inferior gear and thus will have lower hp/defences, lower DPS and lower healing since it is in ilvl70 compared to ilvl90 gear and relic+1. You may get by naked in ifrit and garuda. But bettering yourself is the one the main reasons to even play/sub to this kind of mmo skinnerbox. Otherwise people would just sub only when new content appears instead of trying to gear their character.
1.alternative characters are a much quicker way to get your alt job geared with mythos gear and relic+1
2. cannot change job in dungeons anyway
3. If you have 2 two character they can each do their own coils runs each week
AK gear is fine, Darklight is better, there is Allagan gear and there is 2 stars craftable gear as well and guess what, if HQ and 5 materiaed is better than darklight.
Farm these for your other classes.
Learn to play
I can't believe how many people don't realize that having a separate character for each job is much more effective than having every job on 1 character.
This alone makes the armory system fun, but pointless.
Person A decides to use a major selling point of the game and levels up PLD and BLM on 1 character.
Person B decides to do the smart thing and completely ignore the armory system and just levels up PLD on 1 character and BLM on a 2nd character.
Now person B has a massive advantage over person A, because person B can go into coil with 2 characters and get myth gear on 2 character, while person A is forced to be gimped forever on their BLM if they choose to spend myth and go coil on their PLD or vice versa.
Any idiot should realize this makes the armory system pointless because ignoring the system gives you huge advantages over making use of it.
Having a major selling point of the game put you at such a disadvantage is bad game design.

I get why they put the weekly mythology cap in; to prevent people from obtaining the best gear immediately, claiming there is no content, and the ensuing bad press that would occur. Still these caps are ridiculous. At the least, the mythology cap should be per job instead of character to keep people playing and enjoying the game. If people are only logging in to get their mythology cap for the week, then the game will fail. This is also related to the Coil lockout, which should be a loot lockout only and not a content lockout. If I clear Turn 1 then I should only be locked out of getting equipment from Turn 1 and should be free to join any other groups who are doing Coil as well. SE is just hamstringing themselves with these outdated systems.
Yep, mostly enjoy gearing for no reason at all because I'm strange like that. Often field an army of alts in similar games. Even if I find this game fun, I will probably lose interest if I can't continue gearing my alt classes until february - and then just one of them and assuming new gear isn't released that uses the same currency, forcing me to buy discount pieces for alts OR current level items for my main.
What gear is "good enough" is very irrelevant. People like progressing their characters. First the main. When that's done for the week, people look to alts. People can't progress their alt characters freely here. If you already progressed your main for the week, your alt is locked. People that are serious about their alt already have DL. They can't progress at all until they're done with their main - in 2-3 months from now.
The system is simply way too restrictive. The only post with an actual negative side to having per job caps I've seen here is the guy that fears people will feel they have to run 64 AK runs per week. The rest won't comprehend what is being asked for/are too busy defending the game unconditionally. Personally, I don't think SE have to police us. When you played WoW, did you feel you had to cap your justice points for all 10 character slots because you were offered the opportunity? I don't think so. You probably enjoyed keeping an alt or two up to date though.
huh? there is a philo cap? I thought you geared your jobs with philo first...
