I would love to rewind time and replay 6 glorious years with EQ1. even with all the time sinks and such. the game promoted a community by forcing you to make friends. whether a mage or druid for teleports or SoW. or simply making an item and or learning the area. duty finder? wtf is that, didn't exist. game forced you to immerse yourself, explore, ask questions and take risks.

my question is, what happened to MMOs?

I am there with you, i played eq for 10 years, but really back then nobody condoned or put with the type or mentality or attitudes and behavior we see now, yes we did have the elite guild but they didnt act half as bad as what we see now. i still go back and run through the progression servers from time to time. To answer you question, it was WOW and instant gratification.

Yep, FF community is best and all other games are not unique or good. All trash. Except ffxi of coarse. /sarcasm

Also love how I hear this phrase from every ffxi fan boy, "I haven't played WoW and it sucks." At least the WoW community doesn't bash games they have never played. Personally think most of this negativity came from f2p mmos and ffxi. Meh that's my only problem with this game. If you haven't played a game don't talk bad about it. Saves yourself from looking silly.
Wow serious? Wow forums put redit to shame and thats saying something.

Honestly, this seems more of an endgame problem. I have 35 dragoon, 26 MRD and around 17 gladiator, mostly level via dungeons. Now I can count the instances when somebody in my party was someone with really bad attitude. Usually polite, more or less friendly (less counting when they do not speak or greet, rare, I think most of them are on ps3 and just dont want to bother with typing with controller, I know I wouldn't). They offer tips for new players and thank for tips I give them, while apologizing for making mistakes. If everything is that bad at endgame, where do people disappear that are nice during low level dungeons?

I play on the PS3 and typing is a bitch, but I always managed at least a hi and definitely a first time here whenever I hit a new instance

Avoid the "Right here, right now" people

In game, I have close to 0% problems, I love the people I play with and I have almost no problem with DF parties. I get some heals when I fight in the environment and I do the same if I see someone could need some help finishing a mob.

The only trouble can come from the places you need to grind 100+ times because people at that point are bored to death but still need those equipment so they force themselves to run this dungeons they hate because they have no other choice to progress and they want to make it as quick as possible

On the forum, it sound like this game is hell, that everybody is trash and people have no idea why they are playing since there seem to be OH SO MANY problems. But in game, you don't see that many complains.

If you want a great experience:
    • Stay away from the forum
    • Stay away from CM/AK at the moment (the worst gaming habit you could find will be in those 2 dungeons)
    • And if you really want to do those CM/AK run NOW, then brace yourself, toughen up and tell yourself is probably temporary

Despite dungeons not offering much reward, I intentionally join them. I even set search criteria to "in-progress." The only time I drop these groups is when the tank does, simply because odds are super low a tank will join an in-progress.

When I roll in, I can usually tell by the boss progress and timer what the group struggled with. I also know that I am a higher-end healer due to my gaming and MMO healing experience. So, I politely explain the fights and heal my butt off. I try to compensate for lower player skill or awareness.

At the same time, if I am doing all of this and being blatantly ignored/trolled, I will question my presence there and move on. I will let people die in fires. I will not rez jerks. I will state my case.

All MMOs need are a little humility and respect. I love it when I help a group beat a dungeon they have clearly struggled with for some time (noted by "FINALLY!" in party chat).

Besides that: I learn how to heal through chaos when I have to heal a subpar group.

The community on this game isn't very nice, that's for sure. I have found some really good players, though, who don't mind taking their time and enjoying the experience. I don't think people realize (or care) that it's just a game, made for fun and recreation.

I wish you were on my server so you could be in my FC! We are super small because we only want people like you. Willing to take time to help eachother out. Yes we have some people that got to 50 really fast but guess what, they sit there and dungeon with me for 2hrs a day to help me get to 50 too.

The other night we had a sch with us who clearly knew he was not cutting it. We were unaware it was his/her first time in Aurum and we wiped at the first boss (locksmith). A very simple boss yet we died. I realized we forgot to check, he/she admitted it was their first time. I explained and we tried again and 2 more times we wiped..sch going out first each time. S/He offered to leave the duty, obviously feeling bad for us...I'm not going to lie we considered accepting it because heals were just no where close to keeping up and he/she was wiping within a minute or two. At the same time though, I didn't want to be that guy saying yes, maybe it's time you go find another party.

We just all instinctively started moving forward again without saying a word. We get to locksmith and there was a concerted effort from the sch on heals and we made it. We lived, and pushed forward. Coincounter was cake after that, then when we got to to the miser's mistress I took a moment to say "ok, this one's a little different". Sch says, great...another malboro lol. I could sense their dread but we told him/her you got this. It got a little shaky here and there but towards the last 1/4 health we knew we had it. Heals were steady and you could tell we had gotten used to working together. We all congratted the sch whom btw walked out with all healer drops on all the chests and I told him/her way to step your game up.

It was then I was reminded to not get in to that rut of just being concerned about our core group. I asked the sch what server their were on but they weren't on ours. I said transfers are coming soon lol.

We have to remind ourselves at times it's up to us to ensure our community is good. We can work to make it better or we can leave it the way it is.

We want challenging and team oriented games...

I agree that FFXI had a better community. It may have to do with the fact that it REQUIRED TEAMWORK and COMMUNITATION. Join a FATE group and zerg in silence isn't my idea of a good time. I think v1.0's failure discouraged SE from creating something of their own. Instead, they rehashed old MMOs and created an easy game that doesn't rely on communication.

No more traveling to camps by using silence and sneaking behind goblins? No more organizing exp parties? No more communicating in groups? Yea, FFXIV ARR is definatelly no where near as great as FFXI was.

Remember how we got tons of abilities and spells (ex: Fire I, Fire II, Fire III, Firaga I, Firaga II, etc)? The choices were fantastic and the fact that we had to use the abilities to strengthen them was amazing. It used to be a hard game, but they made FFXIV ARR easy mode. It's very sad.

Here's a Phoenix server player wishing luck to all the community gamers who enjoy a challenging and sociable MMO.

You keep talking about FFXI in a past tense, you do realize that the game is still up and running and with new content, don't you? If FFXIV isn't as good as FFXI in your eyes, then why are you playing FFXIV instead of FFXI?

In fact FFXI is actually much better now than it has been in the last 10 years, much more content and you arent forced to wait 8 hours to gather 18 people to do the smallest thing anymore. They even have login contests now where you accumlate daily points and you can get rare gear/furnishings or even NM pop items just for logging in daily.

So what are you waiting for? Go to playonline.com and rejoin FFXI since you don't like all the conviences and advanced functions of FFXIV when compared to FFXI.
