Please give us way to distinguish between new and veteran players (average level)

Can we please have a way for players to distinguish between a new rank 30 player and a veteran rank 30 who also has 5 rank 50s?

The reason I ask is that it's very frustrating when you're trying to rank up and you come across all these players in parties who don't know much (took them 4 days to reach r30) and now they think they're better just because they're 2 ranks above your current one.

It'd sort of be like America's Army, the Honor ranking system where your "honor" would go up with each level. It was a good way to gauge your opponents and to keep from telling your squad mates things they'd likely already know.

I propose that this system would be the collective average of all classes combined and seen as a visible number next to their name. If not a number, at least a symbol representing the collective number of ranks they share between all classes. Sort of like badges you earn.

    Thank you,

    -Maddix

There's always two sides to every coin.

You might see it as a way to instill a sense of accomplishment and pride in yourself, but others will abuse this system. It would promote elitism. Say we have a new player. He only has a single rank 30, and thus his collective level is low. Then we have a bunch of people with multiple R50s and a high collective. They might not invite that low player because it's obvious he's new. People might discriminate against new players and require a set "Collective" in order to join groups to perform certain tasks.

Similar to what happened with Gearscore in WoW. I think it would cause more trouble than good.

Pretty much this. Sorry but not all newbies act as you claim. And it is that attitude that made cookie cutting happen in ffxi. People played a job one way all he way to max level then force this build on others. Using the "i got it to max, i know more then you" statement.

I'd take a "New Adventurer" status like FFXI had, but I wouldn't go as far as ranking people.

I fail to see why that even matters. It's not like you have to know how to play your job to get to 50 in this game... That being said, just take note of who they are, and don't invite them again. Or! God forbid, explain things to them and help them out. Unless they are the arrogant kind that don't take constructive criticism without turning into a troll.

All you need to tell them:
    1. Only attack red mob.
    2. Press 1 over and over.
    3. ???
    4. Profit.

It doesnt matter what someone who doesnt know you thinks about your level, regardless of how long you have played they will have thier own opinions, i wouldnt sweat it.

I also find it amazing the amount of 1 1 1 11 players out there, it would never work for me, but then again i usually work with smaller groups and solo, and fight the hardest stuff i can and get decent exp for, so that might be why i actually have to use the majority of my skills.

I'm not worried about new people whom I can share insights with. I'm concerned with the rude bossy types who think they're all that and that I don't know anything since they're 34 and I'm 32 at the time etc...

Blacklist them. Or better yet, sit back and watch them fail miserably, then when they die, do /point /laugh and don't raise them. Those people aren't worth your time. If they don't learn to stop being an asshat, and don't learn to play their job, they will not get very far in an MMO. People like that just aren't worth your time.

Although i'll admit, sometimes it's fun to fight with them. Lodestone their profile, then just pull out the good old internet argument of "How many r50's you got?"

As Endemerrin, a system like that will cause more harm than good. New players will get frustrated because it will become hard for them to get parties, etc. And not all new players are bad. While not all are great, it's rare I run into someone that makes me go, "Wow, this person sucks."

With the way this game is currently, one sour grape in a full party will not ruin it for everyone. If it were XI on the other hand... you'd be screwed.
