Hey. Friendly neighborhood necroposter here.
I wanted to get something more specific out of a dev, maybe. Can we expect alliance chat in 2.1? 2.2? Any ETA at all?
Hello,
It has been two years since this has been posted but we are still having this problem! In fact, we had to launch an additional overflow such that we are now split between THREE Free Companies. While activity is at a lull right now due to the content cycle, this problem recurs every patch and will probably become a major issue again when the next expansion launches. Could we please get an update on the status of this?
Thank you and with much love,

I'm amazed at how large your community has grown! But, to be honest, your situation is fairly unique. On Behemoth, all of the large FCs are not affiliated with one another, and I imagine this woud be the case also on most other servers (especially low pop ones) so if they were to do anything to address this (which sadly I doubt) it would be low low low priority compared to things that benefit the majority.
I know they said about a year ago they were planning to introduce Free Company alliances (having FCs work together), but it would seem this too, like many other amazing things they say they are looking into, has drifted into the 'forgotten about' basket of dreams
As I stand looking out from my window, I reminisce about the old days and the many ups and downs of my adventures throughout Eorzea.
It is then that I know achievement.
No, that's ridiculous. 512 is way more than enough.
The only way you're even hitting that number is because you're mindlessly recruiting people and purposefully trying to inflate your numbers to hit the limit (not what the FC system is intended for, mind you), which means there isn't going to be any sort of limit that satisfies you anyway.
512 members in a guild is a ridiculously low cap. This needs to be changed with 4.0 if at all possible.
If you want comparisons, many games cap guilds at 1000 members, but even that's starting to change.
- IIRC, WoW removed the guild cap entirely sometime around MoP or WoD (could be wrong, but I've definitely seen guilds in the guild listings on larger servers with more than 1000 members).
- Dungeons and Dragons Online had to remove or raise the cap on guilds there due to a number of guilds hitting their cap of 1000.
- Finally, EVE Online doubled their maximum corporation member cap to 12,600(!) - the highest actual cap I've ever seen in any game (and yes, there are corps that actually come close to having that many members).
With that in mind, I think FFXIV could at least double the maximum number of members allowed in an FC. I also think Linkshells and the NN could use an increase as well (double for NN, at least up to 512 for Linkshells).
Tell that to Aureus Knights. We keep a roster of around 500 semi-active to active members, pretty much all the time. I guarantee that we would benefit from a cap increase, and we're not a spammer guild. In fact, while our requirements aren't very strict, we do actually have a formal application process. No, that's ridiculous. 512 is way more than enough.

Dancer is a physical hybrid melee/range class, not a true ranged class. I love it.

Edit: A FC Player cap is still dumb.

Wow. My FC of 14 people now feels incredibly small.
Being 512 (more specifically 2^9) it feels very much like a technical limit, but also probably because they don't want "Super" FCs. 512 people is a lot of people and has the potential for massive influence on a server (market prices and even possibly what content is run/when).
I can't even trying to organise a FC that big, but if you have that many active members... wow. But if they're not active... have a policy where they get kicked if they're inactive for X months and they can re-apply.
We had over 3k in our guild in EQ.
No, it's not. You're overinviting, plain and simple. There is no reason to have that many people there, let alone still needing more.512 members in a guild is a ridiculously low cap.
There isn't even anything you can do in the game with more than 24 people that isn't just free open world content like hunts, anyway.
