Also... why don't you guys get a BIG TeamSpeak3/Ventrilo/Mumble/etc server... Our fc is small, but we don't really even chat in the game, we just talk in voice chat. Makes communication in fights about 1000 times easier too.

Unfortunately, voice chat tends to drown out people more readily than text chat, and not everyone has a mic or is reluctant to voice chat.
We have one, but having 100x people trying to talk at once is a bit impractical, so we mostly use FC chat to coordinate things, and voice chat for smaller groups. Voice chat also doesn't work for a lot of people because of their job/family/other factors.
It was a good idea though-- but the effectiveness of voice communication diminishes with an increase in numbers.
We have a large mumble server, but text chat in-game is vastly superior for putting together groups. So yes, we do this, but I have no idea what problems it solves. I personally don't like hanging out in the main channel on the mumble; I don't need to hear audible idle chat constantly, nor do I want to. It's not a solution to our problem by any means, but it is one of the ways we've worked to mitigate it. More often, our more active members join linkshells that have members from both companies so group requests and the like can be forwarded. I have already gotten to where I need to pick and choose what linkshells to belong to in order to be within the limit of 8.
We also use IRC but that has a lot of limitations, the largest being that it's mainly a social channel for people who want to be playing but can't (read: at work) than something people actively read while playing, thwarting its usefulness for recruitment.
VVVV sorry for the futurequote, but we use it for dungeon runs and raids but it's up to an individual group whether they need/want/can use voice chat. Coil LSes and Titan runs tend to use them, or people who just want to shoot the breeze while doing mindless Praetorium runs

..It's so rare to actually see someone mention you can actually use in-game chat in any capacity. In some FCs you usually get yelled at for suggesting even the dirty deed of typing.
Man, that sounds so alien and bizarre to me but at the same time, I can't say I'm surprised.
This is a completely reasonable request with no negative impact for people in other Free Companies. I don't understand the hostility towards the suggestion.
I don't think anyone is saying flat out "NO" as much as people are saying that the resources don't necessarily add up here for what sounds like 1 or 2 FCs in the whole game want and I do think that the response you'll get is something like "While we appreciate you playing the game and find it rewarding to have a large group, the development team does not have plans to increase the size of FCs. Thank you."
And who knows what the reasoning is? Future housing may only let so many FC members in? Limits for the PS3? Future FC points being spent on other things? Again, feel for you guys, I just don't see a solution coming on down even with asking.
Or potential competition between FCs for things like PvP or Global summoning in the future, pretty easy to have the entire server on lockdown if you've employed half of the population into your single mega-group. If they don't decide to increase the limit it may just be wanting to keep the playing field even in the long run.
