    PS3 to PC?

Was recently talking to some people from my Free Company and can't seem to find a solid answer to a question one of them asked. They have the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and was saying they'd play on PC if they could, but don't want to have to go out and buy FFXIV again. Once a player has an active account, is there a way to transition without paying for it again?

Btw, before somebody mentions it, I know there were downloads for all who played 1.0, but that's not what I'm talking about.

Well since it's for a new account... then no. Your friend must purchase the PC edition if they want to play on it, since it's a 2.0 account.

he never mentioned it being for a new account did he? and I'm fairly sure accounts aren't console/pc specific. if he can get the game installed on a pc he shouldn't have an issue logging in with his existing account. i could be wrong though

No. If you have for example; "PS3 Standard Edition", you can only play on the PS3.
You would need to purchase a Windows PC Standard Edition also to play on a PC, there is no way to circumvent this. You'll be able to attach it to the same account via the mog station, but you really will have to buy a windows copy.

Your registration is 'final'. Once you've registered your code, or unboxed the game essentially it's your copy.

well if it wasn't a new account then they wouldn't be asking this question. However he did say they ONLY play on the ps3 and never mentioned playing 1.0 and or owning 1.0's version of the game. So that in all accounts of logic and deductive thinking, my dear Watson, would mean that they are new accounts.

Also as a person playing on both pc and ps3 you have to register both versions to your account to be able to play off of both... meaning you have to purchase both copies of it. Though you can't register two pc games to one account

Wasn't talking about a new account. Said they currently have a 2.0 account they use on PS3 but they'd like to play on PC so we can use Vent and all as well. Asked if they could use active account to transition, only thing they'd be missing is the PC client.

That is what I was concerned of. You'd think they would have it set to where you only need to purchase one copy of the game for a single account (and let that one account be played on any client, so long as they can log themselves in and be limited to one character online at a time). Essentially I thought we were paying for the key, not the client. Is something you'd think they could provide to those who use PS3 should they want to make the transition. Not sure how it would work if somebody tried it the other way around.

    This is how it works.

When you buy and activate the PS3 version via Mogstation, your account has the FFXIV (PS3) service added to it.

You are required to purchase the PC version and activate that via Mogstation to add the FFXIV (PC) service to your account.

Even if you somehow download the PC version without having the service activated for your account, it will not let you log into the PC version until you've activated the service for your account by actually paying for the PC version.

The plus-side is that this will add a 30-day "Trial Period" to your account. I bought the PC version on top of my PS3 so I could have the convenience of both and have the 60 days.
