Convert mobs into cards with mobballs!
Yoshi-P confirmed they will be adding the Gold Saucer (from FFVII) into the game. The projected update is 2.3, he is requiring his development team have at least 3 mini-games for the launch, and will be adding more. He said a card game is one of the things they are working on.I remember back in the days people often commented in 11 of how cool it be to play either ff8 and 9 card game in the game itself or an entirely new card game all together.
They also thought of blitzball, but I think that's pushing it too far (Not really, we're having Lightning in game soon so wtf)
I think it would be great extra content to have a card game, invite friends to play, collect cards, win cards over, have super rare cards, create tournaments, etc.
MMO's shouldn't just be "Get gear+Raid"
There should be more to it than that.

That would be awesome... minions would serve a purpose then... maybe having them out would help them gain exp or abilities based on where they went with you and what they did.... that would be a lot of fun....
This game would do well with a few mini-games.

Special Boss cards dropped from dungeon and world bosses.
Craftable cards (likely from alc)
Tracking (Like a Card Log)
Ability to challenge other players on the go
PvP Style cross server games (Randomly matched with someone the same rank as you)
Ranking system on W/L/D or card exp
YOU ON A CARD! (Awarded for winning a tournament perhaps?)
Annual Tournaments?
Instead of mobs dropping cards have a quest that gives you an item. Once mob is weakened, use item to capture it's essence. This essence can then be "imprinted" on a blank card by a crafting profession (maybe any like dyes).
Blank cards can be made and sold, game cards too.

You already have gear, LTW mats and some CUL mats dropped by mobs. Not to mention capturing "essences" would require you to hunt down in the world.
It's not all about battle content and with taht system i stated above both crafting and battle classes have an input.
