I remember back in the days people often commented in 11 of how cool it be to play either ff8 and 9 card game in the game itself or an entirely new card game all together.

They also thought of blitzball, but I think that's pushing it too far (Not really, we're having Lightning in game soon so wtf)

I think it would be great extra content to have a card game, invite friends to play, collect cards, win cards over, have super rare cards, create tournaments, etc.

MMO's shouldn't just be "Get gear+Raid"

There should be more to it than that.

They have stated in the past that they will be adding a card game in the future.

Whilst they haven't confirmed if its Triple Triad or Tetra Master, you can probably expect something similar.

Personally i'm hoping for the simplicity of Triple Triad.

This game really needs a reason to grind mobs, and if mobs dropped a card, that would be awesome for us "Catch em all" types.

I'd love a card game just to have the task of collecting all of the available cards, at least the cards we be more useful then collecting minions... Unless we can fight our minions! YES! Minion battle. Please look foward to it!

The whole card thing could even have a side story, building your own deck with your own personal signature. Let's say there's even a special card about your character, maybe it be like a limit break card or something.

Yes, because we all know you will be FORCED to play it..lol.

I say bring a card game back for sure..they were a lot of fun in the single player games so I think they would be loads better in an MMO environment. It would also add a new element to the gameplay..you could be sitting around in towns and what not challenging other players...then like the OP suggested hold large buy-in tournaments in the major cities...really cool idea.

I like this idea, i know how the card game will look like has not even been announced yet but i hope there will be a way to see people playing, i mean having a spectator mode or something, it would be handy for tournaments.
Having cards dropping on mobs, or crafted would be awesome too.
Lets say a "Super rare / strong card" drops on X boss of X dungeon /raid. it would give people reasons to rerun those said dungeons / raids ( if they care about the card game that is ).

Im not gonna get excited and start thinking of how it should be until the devs shows the card system though, because:
1. its not the main point of FFXIV, so its game system will probably not be too elaborated.
2. i dont wanna be deceived because i had too much expectations.

If it's optional content, which it likely will be, I'm all for it. It'll give me something to do when I might not have much time to do a full dungeon run or I just don't feel like doing any combat or crafting related stuff. Optional stuff is great. I just hope they don't make too many exclusive items from crazy scaled dungeons that only 1/8-24 people can lot on.
