Race Choice? Not stats, but line of sight issues? Animation differences matter?

    Hi all,

Newbie question here. I plan on rolling up a marauder here shortly for tanking and am looking for some race advice.

I know race doesn't matter in terms of stats, but for those that have played the game awhile, do you know if any races have line of sight issues on targets that would make tanking and mob control more difficult? For example, not being able to see small targets in front of a Roegadyn, or camera angles with the Lalafell obscuring flying targets?

More importantly, do any of the races have animation advantages, clarity or otherwise? I know with elves so far, the running animations feel a bit sloppier and I had a hard time correctly jumping or judging distance. For examples from other games, in WoW, Orcs have some of the cleanest melee animations, and it makes it easier to chain abilities and height in Skyrim slightly modifies swing speed, actually giving advantages to, say, high elves.

Many thanks! Any advice is appreciated.

Last I checked the only things that affected your performance in character creation were some slight variations in stat distribution dependent on race/sub-race, and how your elemental values are distributed depending on whatever deity you chose to follow.

Height has no effect on targeting. Line of sight only comes in when the mob is obscured by the environment, like around a corner or behind a rock.

As for animation, it has no real effect on gameplay. It's aesthetic. I gave up my Elezen and switched to Mi'qote in part because I prefer the animations. But it has no gameplay value. It's just personal preference.

Everyone has the same animations, except for running/walking/jumping/emotes.

I've only played Mi'qote and Hyur, which are nearly the same size, so I don't know about Lalafel or Roegadyn issues, but I have issues sometimes fighting flying targets with melee classes. The camera angle can't always be adjusted far enough to actually see the mob I'm fighting. I see the empty space below them and have to just use the circle on the ground that marks the location of my target to know where they're at. (It's a significant part of why I'm beginning to prefer ranged classes in this game. You get much better visibility if you can stand back a bit.)

You can also just zoom the camera out. It goes really far and it's honestly better for many boss fights.

This. I always zoom way back for primal fights, especially, even on BRD. It just makes environmental awareness and targeting easier.

I'm the shortest Miqo'te you can possibly choose (literally the only way to be any shorter would be a lalafell) and I'm a lvl 38 paladin tank. The only time I have problems targeting is if I'm zoomed in too close (easily fixed by just zooming out) especially if the mob is really big (looking at you Cancer you bastard crab) Though sometimes my targeting gets screwy like some how i targeted myself but that has nothing to do with race or height issues and more just retardedness on the user (ie myself)

... and on a side note ... god I love this game :3

Of course they are 18 officer, I mean come on, 9 and 9 clearly make 18
