I hope THF is its own job.
NIN should be its own thing--and also shouldn't come until a "new continent" expansion; along with SAM.
If NIN and SAM came now, it wouldn't fit with the Eorzean setting.

When I think of Final Fantasy, thf is definately a significant class/job (I really think it should be a job for a generic stealthy, dexterous class). Almost every game had a main character with thief attributes. I have probably spent more time playing thf in various FF games than any other class/job. Thf is the most notably missing to me. I'm not sure how, but I really hope stealing can be a significant part of thf. FF tactics comes to mind, but not sure how that could work in a MMO.
Ninja seems close to thf, but I think of light armor and and dps including magic / status effects much more than tank. Samurai could/should be a tank imo. I'm not sure there's room for Assassin if they introduce thf and ninja. Since I mentioned samurai, I think drk makes sense too - like Cecil, or Sephiroth, or Gaffgarion! There are plenty of mages such as Red, Blue and Time.
