That's funny, I didn't know monks could steal!Bootshine -> Instantly crits when attacked from behind. Lets change the wording a bit....
Backstab -> Instantly crits when attacked from behind. Sounds pretty thievish.
Greased Lightning -> Increases attack speed and damage. Lets change the wording a bit.....
Triple attack -> Increases attack speed and damage. Hm..... I'm seeing a pattern.
Demolish -> Damage over time. Once again....
Bleed -> Damage over time.
Featherfoot -> Increases Evasion
Perfect Dodge -> Increases Evasion
Pugilist -> Fast attacker, positional, fast movement, evasion buffs. Uses a weapon in each hand.
If you give a pugilist a dagger instead of a fist weapon and change the names of certain skills ITS A THIEF.

i dont get what you are trying to compare here, a pugilist and rouge from world of warcraft? thief only dealt increased damage from behind in ff11. doesnt even come close to convincing me a monk is a thief reborn in ARR/ ill believe it when i see a class named Thief.
and for the record if you want to know what a thief does in the final fantasy world this is what they do.
STEAL --> the nature of being a thief
run/hide --> the often had a better run/flee rating
mug --> steal and deal damage
throw --> use items in your invetory to deal damage
and in the case of final fantasy XI they controlled enmity by securing it on a chosen target which if you want to compare thief to another thief in an MMO, this one would be more appropriate to make the comparison to.
Plus since we have treasure coffers they could have some sort of interaction with them.i dont get what you are trying to compare here, a pugilist and rouge from world of warcraft? thief only dealt increased damage from behind in ff11. doesnt even come close to convincing me a monk is a thief reborn in ARR/ ill believe it when i see a class named Thief.

Maybe instead of agalon tin bags we could get silver from Treasure Hunter trait from thieves
i could see thf doing something like this or giving another drop of the bags.
Im so sad there is no thief or a thief type role in ARR. Imagine your in a dungeon and you need to kill a monster to get a key, and the thief walks in and steals it off him. It would be lots of fun and have a lot of high/risk reward moments, either fight a room full of mobs or get lucky and skip past it.
I could also see thieves as being a dps/support role by stealing status effects from monsters and party members, giving move speed or attack speed buffs to the party, or stealing the enmity off of a party member(that whm being mobbed by adds) and giving it to the tank.
so many plug and chug dps roles and to have something like thf that could bring a whole new spin to the party dynamic left out![]()
Scout/thm (glad) > Ninja
Scout/lancer (marauder)> Thief.
Thief > Melee quick crit damage. Some ranged ability with "Throw", but more focus on the backstabbyness with steal.
Ninja > Still melee crit damage because of the scout portion, but more focus on ichi and ni type spell cast abilities. Ability to tank, possibly through evasion like ffxi? Though, without the requirement to constantly have up utsusemi ichi/ni so you can enjoy the tanking without constantly being required to have up a scroll type spell.
That's what I would do, anyway. Keeps in line with the classes do in prior games, including ffxi.

throw is a ninja move
that said what she is saying is not false actually the monk it's an erzatz of thief...
this quite correct but thieves are very often either associated with ninjas or a ninja role is also share with thieves. however i am not convinced monk is a thief type role ersatz or other wise. here is some clarification for you guys on the thief role in the final fantasy series, and no, it is a not a tripple attack venom backstabber ala world of warcraft.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Thief_(Job)
Thief will most likely be a job, not a class that evolves to a job. If anything I'd see something like a new class called Assassin or Rogue maybe that evolves to Thief and Ninja. The only complication in all of this is that the weapon defines the job. Daggers are currently Gladiator weapons, so Thief would require a new weapon or Dagger would need to be removed from Gladiator/Paladin.

Not necessarily... Both BLM and WHM currently share wands and staffs. They wouldn't need to remove daggers from GLD just make some of them gld specific and make others thf specificThief will most likely be a job, not a class that evolves to a job.
