The Hatching Hour Approaches

Hatching-tide is now drawing to a close. Due to end at 3pm on 09/05/11. The lore of the event speaks of the approaching Hatching Hour, the time when the fabled Archons will return and lead us in our battle against the encroaching darkness.

This leads me to ponder a few different points:

• What will happen when the Hatching Hour comes?
• Is the Hatching Hour tomorrow? The texts don't specify when it will come, only that the Hatching-Tide Festival leads to it.
• What of the hints towards this all be a hoax perpetrated by the "Dreamers".
• The spriggan thieves claim they stole the eggs to summon their own Archon. Could this Archon be different to the 12 spoken of by the Dreamers? The lore does say that the Spriggans approached the Dreamers with an offer of help to gather the eggs. What are their motives?
• Is the arrival of the GM Archanist and the drops of Deaspected Crystals connected or simply a coincidence.
• Why would the Archons be so interested in us all wearing garish head wear?

I am going to ignore my usual cynical side and hope that this truly is the start to the battle for Eorzea. We have all the pieces of a mysterious puzzle laid out before us and I am excited by the possibility that this could be huge. I just hope this doesn't all simply fizzle out tomorrow and it's as if nothing ever happened, until the update in June.

What are your thoughts on the points raised and the Hatching-Tide festival in general?

Well written and thought Penny. I really appreciate your points. I am excited to see how this all plays out and I hope we aren't let down and nothing happens until June as well. I am going to ponder this somemore I think.

I can't see them doing this. But, if so could be a breaking point for me.

My guess is probably nothing major. The Dreamer NPCs will disappear and a few NPCs around the major cities and camps will say something new. I don't foresee anything new until patch 1.18 in June, but maybe sooner if they release a patch 1.17b. My guess is no on 1.17b due to Golden Week, and they will focus on getting a big patch out asap.

Just wait until the 1 year mark to make that decision. This game was released at least 1 if not 2 years too soon.

Everyone will complain regardless. They could give us Chocobos that excrete HNMs that drop end-game ranked gear and people would still complain.

Does no one want to even hazard a guess as to what it all means?

I was thinkin possibly the Archons are the embodiment of the Twelve so it would make sense that their arrival comes at the end of an age. A judgement day if you will.

As for the deaspected crystals - there has been an Archanist wandering the land preaching doom. Its a totally baseless theory but what if the archanist's weapon uses elemental crystals to launch its attacks, similar to the way an archer loads arrows. The deaspected crystals could simply empty shells.

This community spends so much time looking for the negative in the game, that even when the developer's give us a mystery to discuss everyone would rather lurk a /rage thread.

Come on use your imagination, we have no idea how the future of Eorzea is going to play out. Let's make some crazy theories for the story using the tid-bits and clues we have got.

I think too many people are afraid to speculate, as that'll likely set themselves up for dissapointment.
