Don't know about the Legacy status, but I'd be pretty amazed if it was affected, simply due to the way adding product codes work insofar as unlocking content.

As for upgrading, it's called a 'digital' upgrade, there's your answer. The only way to get the physical toys is buy and register a boxed full product.
