I am an old generation MMOer and played many games in the genre (not just wow) that had more things to do once past the leveling experience. I can list F2P MMOs that have more end game content and that is sad.

No, you really can't. I have played every MMO since Ultima Online (technically I played AoL Neverwinter, but most don't know about that MMO) and there is not a single one that had significant endgame content at launch. You're either misremembering or looking back through rose-colored glasses. ARR actually has more than most.
