Access Violation errors can be hard to track down sometimes without parsing the dumpfile. It may not even be XIV... it could be a DLL or other executable that isn't getting along in the background.

I'd start with the less "intrusive" items to disable or make sure they are up to date. Stop unnecessary background services (like Apple/iTunes stuff, Adobe/Java autoupdates and such), get critical Windows Updates and .NET updates, update your Java and Flash and such, maybe your Anitvirus and other security products as well. Run a chkdsk on your drive to see if it can fix errors in the file system. Dpn't overlook DirectX either--especially if you were not prompted to install the DX9 files. Might be worth trying the DX9c runtime installer in case you need an updated DLL for the DX9 thunking.

Last resort, driver updates--starting with the least impactful first (printers, network card, etc.). Sometimes newer video card drivers create new problems, so make sure you have your old driver package available in case you need to revert. You can find a lot archived at guru3d.com.

It's possible you have some hardware components starting to wear out, depending on the age of your system (or how much you abuse it via overclocking). Might be worth the time to download the ISO for memtest86 to run that to check your RAM out. Double check your GPU/CPU temps out too if you have monitoring software, or you can get tools like GPU-z. CPU-z, or their generic hardware monitor tool if you don't have any software for that. The temps of your CPU/GPU are more critical if you are overclocking (verify your voltages and such are sufficient if you are)--but you can still have issues at stock speeds if your cooling isn't working right. Also good to note your voltages while under load as well (in game)--if your PSU is marginal, you may see voltages get skewed downward after the system is on for a bit and the PSU starts warming up a bit. If voltages get too out of spec (too low as well, not just too high) it can cause anywhere from intermittent software crashes all the way to a seemingly random shutdown/reboot of the system.
