Does anyone else have difficulty keeping hate off these classes? I mean sometimes i keep hate just fine and sometimes it's hard. Is it them or am i just doing something wrong?

It's probably because of their AoEs, it terms of single target, neither of them are far ahead of the rest, if even at all to warrant them being harder to Tank with.
If find classes that priorities Single Target DPS like Dragoons much easier to Tank with because they are predictable damage wise. With a BLM/SMN it's a guessing game whether they are going to burn a single target down ASAP or use their AoEs so it's hard to judge whether or not you should be using Flashes more or Single target combos.

Generally with a group I mark, then:
Pull, flash twice, lay my Harlone combo on 1, rotate what I need, and flash in between to hold the rest. Even wih ape this usually keeps all enmity on me, and anything slips a quick provoke or shield lob and ey're back on.
The important part is the initial dual flash, and to simply flash between combos. Don't overdo it, but keep it applied.
I feel if you're able to pull that off, the DPS is pretty low.Always use both.

Have been doing this in my AK runs
Shield Lob T1
Mark T1
CoS when the mobs get near me
Flash
Spirits Within T1
Flash
Rampart
Fast Blade T1
Savage T1
Check Enmity levels, apply force as needed (including your first RoH, SW should have given you a decent lead over even Reliced single target dps'ers).
Until you get to Savage Blade, you are switching off between GCD and non-GCD abilities, so it gives you a "leaps and bounds" lead even with AE aggro in less than 4 GCDs. Then, as the rest have said, flash more for AE groups, Combo more for single target groups.
If you have a SMN or BLM in the group, easiest way is for a couple pulls have provoke ready. If they are always doing nothing but AOE, which I find almost all SMN do, then switch to a different rotation then normal. Use flash after every ROH combo for starters. You also want to constantly tab check on every mob and see which ones have the highest chance of getting pulled by the SMN/BLM. Save your ROH for that mob, and continue regular rotation with adding flash more then normal during a non-SMN/BLM run.
You can see how much threat everyone has on a specific mob under the party menu. It helps tremendously to see which person is about to pull aggro so you can react to it.
