The OP has just given away his lack of real Final Fantasy edumacation.
Sounds to me you want a Dragoon/Beast Master/Blue Mage. You can't have it all Dragoons only staple is wielding a Lance and having high flying jump attacks.Okay time for "blooms complaint of the day" lol
Dragoons are no more than warriors with a spear in the game theres hardly any point in getting dragoon from lancer since all it is, a warrior with a spear without dragon like quiltys.
Either one of this need to be giving to dragoons so dragoons are a little more "dragoony".
A. Dragons given a dragon egg so they can raise a dragon minion of there choice etc like a fire dragon icedragon, poison dragon etc.
B. Breath attacks make dragoons go out and kill dragons to learn the dragons breath attacks or kill other things for example ice breath for killing a ice dragon.
The reason why i say this again at this point there is no "Dragoons in the game" just warriors with a spear.
Anyone can learn to jump? Really, tell that to MJ or any other athlete that trains specifically for their task or are particularly talented at one aspect. Dragoons train with the Lance for its penetrating attributes (penetrating dragon skin), longer shaft and more leverage; and jumps since Dragons are typically in the air.
Having a dragon assist you just doesn't make sense, since you are a Dragon Slayer (not to mention not a Beast Master). Having a Dragon Breath, I suppose that would make sense based on previous games. But its more likely to be associated with Blue Mages than a Dragoon, since the Dragoons that could use Breath Attacks were also Blue Mages in description (Kimahri). I think Tactics Advance is the only Dragoon that can use Breath attacks and also has a separate Blue Mage class.
FFXI allowed you to have a small Wyvern assist you, which really didn't make much sense either.
Personally I feel Dragoons are one of the only Jobs that actually feels true to its nature right now. Monk or White Mage would come in second. Not having elemental affinities to spells for Black Mage doesn't exactly fit nor having ga/ja spells; Summoners being more DoT based than actually summon based; Paladins not having any real substantial curing ability; Warriors being Life Drain tanks; Scholars having fairies, though I guess scholar doesn't make very many appearances in the franchise so thats acceptable...and Bard being an Archer...
I'd say other Jobs have way more to complain about than the Dragoon. I actually fear for the second job coming from the Lancer class because it is so tailored to being a Dragoon.

I'm pretty sure everything that could be said on this matter, has been said. Let this thread remain dead.
The insanely retarded comments is just amazing...no seriously lol.
I think it would be a great idea for Drg to have elemental breath attacks. It would give us something to use our mp on. I'd say skip the pet though.

PleAse if I wanted to play a pet class I'd be a summoner! No damn pet!!! No dragon breath!!! It's cool but I would simply like some immunity while jumping and high damage to winged beast as found within final fantasy III. Nothing to big but something to increase me feeling like I'm in FFIII.

My complaint? Most of them are super bad. But that could just be the culture of this game and everything hitting 50 without learning how to dodge aoe circles.
My fix? Bring back pentathrust with tp store from samurai. Boom all fixed.
Yeah fix jumps to avoid damage and give us breath attacks.
you must never play other ff games
dragoon trademark skill is jump,so this is not <insert game name that use spear class>
before you rant go play other ff game or read info
give dragon pet/wyvern will make dragoon damage will nerf as already said by yoship
the only thing to improve dragoon is lower all dragoon skill,40 sec for Jump is too dmn long.bec of long cd i hardly use other jump ability
also make dragoon when jump invul to almost all damage,or decrease damage when jump more than half
with that improvement dragoon will be more like dragoon
