    Lag/Stuttering

I was playing FFXIV the other day when my sound suddenly crashed. I finished my battle, logged out, and restarted the computer. My sound was restored, but I am now experiencing terrible lag/stuttering trying to play the game. It's almost like every other key press is stuck or ignored.

I checked pcpitstop, and my internet bandwidth and ping are great. I uninstalled and reinstalled FFXIV to no avail, and I turned down the graphic settings. I optimized my HD. It doesn't sound like this is a server-side lag, or I'd hear more complaining.

    I play with:

    Intel Duo Core 2.13GHz
    4GM RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 3870
    Win 7 64bit

This constant lag/stuttering makes battles frustrating and almost impossible. Also, it sometimes makes me run in circles or take a second or two to actually stop running.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Couple things you can try:

Get a copy of RealTemp which you can download online. Start the game up and run it and watch the temps of your first two processor cores. (FFXIV only uses the first two and greatly overtaxes the first 1). If either of them are above 80C, you are damaging your CPU and it probably cannot handle the game. Edit: Above 90C there is a chance it will start to melt because of the heat.

If above is the case, you need an Active Heatsink on your CPU. Not just a stock fan. Noctua NH-12U would be ur best bet. Assuming Desktop.

If laptop, you really cant do much about the heat; sadly.

Your card isn't the greatest to be running this game, which will cause stuttering as well, check temp on this as well. Drop all graphic settings, use CSAA for AA, MSAA is not properly fixed by SE yet, turn off bloom and shadows as bloom doesnt work properly and shadows are not needed.

The sound crash is due to a freq setting in your speakers. You have to set them to some lvl of MHZ otherwise sometimes they will just cut out. SE has not fixed this yet.

Do not damage your hardware to play this game, you will regret it later; get the proper hardware first.

    I have a "Edit"3870 256bit 512mb and i play on

Drawing quality High "But Standard is best"
Drawing quality high "But standard is best"
    Texture quality high
    texture filtering high

I do have Shadow off only reason is i can't stand them never like having them on in any game.

Maybe he need to update the GPU but i have no issue with FFXIV and i play on that setting with the same video card.

I have a feeling that his CPU is overheating; which is a major issue.

My 3870 goes from 70-95C anything 98+ would = problem in any type of game but as long as the video card is 70-95c is not bad. Tho sense the new update my video card stay a nice 70-85C He could have heating problem if he have the setting higher then mine.3

    Multisampling= No AA

Drawing quality = 8 "You can have it at 10 but don't really see the diff"
Drawing quality = 3 "You can have it at 5 but don't really see the dff"
    Texture quality high
    texture filtering high
    Ambient occlusion off
    Depth of field off
shadow detail lowest "Also have shadow off in game dislike shadow in any game"

    Video drivers: 11.5

    Playing at 1440x900

    Thank you so much, friends.

I emulated Zenaku's settings. The big difference between our settings was that I was running the game at 1900x1200, so apparently turning that down made all the difference I needed. I'm monitoring both temps, and the CPU and GPU are fine.

I have good heatsinks on both, but Eldan may have been right in that my CPU was causing the issues.

    Thanks again! ^_^
