you would think thatThere are more smart people than idiots, so those 2-5k+ purchases show up on the price history as anomalies as the majority of sales will be below the NPC price range. People will know what the fair market value for apples will be due to the easy to understand info of the price history.
but if sellers see that it can sell for 2-5k, theyll try
and then more will see it, and follow suite
why sell it at all for 500-1000 around vendor price when you know people will buy it for 5k
the majority of people buying dont have to be smart
it only takes a few idiots to set the trend(and there are more then enough)

That assumes that most of the buyers are idiots as well and that they don't know that you can buy apples from the NPC for 1.3k.
Most buyers know you can get apples for 1.3k from the NPC, so the majority of the wards sales are not going to be above that price since you actually have to make a sale first before it'll appear on the sale price history.
again, it doesnt take mostThat assumes that most of the buyers are idiots as well and that they don't know that you can buy apples from the NPC for 1.3k.

it only takes a few
if you got just a handful of people buying up apples at 5k a pop....then they are selling, and sellers will post it at those prices more
and the "majority" of people wanting apples wont see the price they want in the ward and will be forced to the vendor
thats where the problem comes in, and its whats causing the stupid sheepskin prices of 10k the way they are now too
people are willing to buy it at that price, the farmers know for a fact they will even if the vendor sells it for less
so whys hould the seller offer it for less when they know itl sell

If it's just a handful of people buying apples at 5k, then that is an anomaly which will be obvious once you look at the price history. Eventually you will have people buying and selling for the correct price, and that will take hold due to other people being informed by looking at the price history.again, it doesnt take most
it only takes a few

you underestime the power of the "i need that item now" crowd lolIf it's just a handful of people buying apples at 5k, then that is an anomaly which will be obvious once you look at the price history. if you want to do something, and you want it now, you dont wait for the price to be right, if your willing to pay the price, youll pay it
and what happens if the price history is overwhelmed by people buying items for 5k+ each? what then? It will then look like an anomoly that someone was selling them for lower.
Also it is SO easy to rig the price history of an item.

And what happens if the majority of players in this game aren't as stupid as you think they are and buy apples from the NPC for 1.3k until a buyer with some common sense lists them for 1k in the wards?
It's not easy to rig the price history if it keeps records as far back as a year and if it lists the names of the buyers and sellers of all transactions.
It's not easy to rig the price history in EVE.
Its going to be hard to sell things for the right price when.... you have people who use a fishing bot then grind alc to 50 by turning fish into shards then they take the shards and sell them in the market. by doing this people can make around 1-7mil of gil a day... so when you make 1-7mil a day it doesn't matter how much you pay for the mats you are going to use to bot your other crafts to 50...
Funny, because it's just the opposite on my server... figured there was a CUL conspiracy where everyone else is a Botanists that don't sell things :P On the plus side people buy my fish like crazy... but, I still can't find most of the mats I need on the market wards... seriously... no one ever sells garlean garlic... so I either have to BTN or put up with NPC pricesthe problem is there are just not enough DoL going to get the mats for us!! and the mats we get from mobs most people just throw away because they NPC for like 45gil lol its a horrible situation... i am a rank 19 cook and i am realizing REALLLLLLY fast that NO ONE wants to sell me fish so i took up fishing >< (stinks!!) i also have LS mates who are Bots (Bottany) and for the specialty mats like black pepper or mustard i farm them with my MRD. Its a HARD life being a cook... we can't rely on the market economy...![]()

People pay crazy prices because gil has no value in XIV. It is far too easy to accumulate.
