No it is not fair. That's what's happened though.
A chap in my FC's account was hacked (no one-time password, natch). Fortunately the hacker made a new "Hghx Jgfll" character on his account rather than using his main, presumably to spam /tell, but who knows. Curiously, the account was suspended within hours (curious because other spammers and teleporters have persisted for weeks) and it has now been under investigation for 21 days and counting (despite tickets and phonecalls).
If the suspension is ever lifted, do you think he'll get 21+ days free subscription and an apology? Me neither.
Some may say im being a white Knight i understand it takes time to add features to prevent this kind of hacking.
however for a pay to play game its getting ridiculous players i have reported for teleporting around the map are still there doing it 6 days later if it was a free to play game i would understand it taking slightly longer to ban due to limited funds/staff but for a pay to play game after 3-5 days and the same person is there doing it something is very wrong.
The thing that is annoying me the most is the community can see there is a massive problem here yet SE are being very very tight lipped about it i dont think ive seen a single responce to this hacking epidemic from any of the SE staff and a company that dont keep its player base informed on matters of security the player base will start to lose confiedence in them
It's really sad because I have complete confidence in the music, graphics, crafting, gathering, market board, character systems and content design. The storyline and characterisation are satisfactory too. The security regarding accounts (make the one-time password mandatory!), RMT 'harassment' (make a mass-blacklisted character unable to /shout, /yell, /tell!) and botting (no suggestion here) is destroying the game like a cancer, however.
The fact that these haven't been fixed is taking away from the efforts of all of the dedicated team members and all the testers who have ploughed months and years of their life into trying to ensure FFXIV is a success.
It's almost as much as a detriment to the game as the English language 'voice-acting'.
They are doing something about botting, just not as fast as some players would like them to handle it. On my server yesterday diremite farm spots were completely devoid of all bots, hell there weren't even any legitimate players there as one point and i could run between all spawns and claim every one of them with no competition for a few hours.
