Some recent testing has suggested that Lalafell has noticeably lower baseline hate generation than other races.
That's the only reason I'd suggest steering clear of them (at least until this is fixed)

That said, I'm running a Sea Wolf.

The difference may exist, but I've honestly never felt it. I've tanked a fight, watched the aggro on everyone, then off tank'd a fight and watched the same thing. The difference is minimal at best in an actual battle. The only issue I've ever had with threat was when 2 WHM casted Medica 2 right as the heart appeared in Titan HM and that would be an issue for literally every race (and is easily solveable by one quick provoke + tomahawk/shield toss).

Well there are stats differences. People downplay them but they are somewhat significant.

A Sea Wolf Roe has 5 more vit than a Dunesfolk Lala or (i think) Keeper of the Moon. 5 Vit isn't a huge amount, but it's about 140ish health, which is somewhat significant in a game like this when every item upgrade goes from 8-10-12 Vit, and people debate endlessly over the value of 30 Vit.

Ultimately it may be one of the smallest decisions you make but it can make a difference.

I play as a Mi'Qote and tank in a summer bikini + normal gear EVERYWHERE I can get away with it.

Mi'Qote = master race.
