Yeah, the argument is kinda still there. With so many things to do in this game, if all you are focusing on is 1 character to 50 and do nothing else at all, I see it as trying to get your first 50 as fast as possible.

Not everyone wants to level all jobs on a single character. Many are content with one job and the associated support classes for needed cross-class abilities. That is not "rushing".
