How to fix RMT and Bots

Require a credit card to create a character.

Then when they ban an RMT they can also ban the credit card from being used again. I'm sure the hackers will get tired of buying pre-paid cards, or will run out of their own cards at some point. Ya I know this could be a problem for some legit players, but this would be the biggest deterrent that I can think of.

Hacker wouldnt require a credit card. They would just hack your account that has your credit card. And you can easily go to any store ajd buy a $20 prepaid. Hell they could buy 5 at a time to save them some hassle. There is never an "easy" fix, especially not at the begining stages of a new game. Takes time, eventually you wont even notice them. They will always exist though, in every mmo.

You underestimate the size and scope of RMT companies, stolen cards and large amounts of money supplied by players drive them, the best deterrent is not to buy gil. As for bots I have a post here http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...erification%29 as an idea to deal with the bots that drive down our economy.

IDK, adding another hurdle that cuts into their margins seems like a big turn off. Cheaters and thieves will always choose the path of least resistance. Just a thought, couldn't hurt, right now it's a horrible problem.

Credit card authentication isn't a hurdle. As someone already said, most RMT accounts used for hunting, gathering, spamming, trading, etc are all compromised/stolen accounts.

But if SE starts banning them daily, they won't be going to the store everyday to spend $20 on dozens of pre-paid cards just to have them banned the next day. And if they are stealing cards huge legal issue, not sure how many are into breaking the law. Hacking accounts, ya that's a problem, but really how many RMT are doing that? Plus, SE would just have to require a token, or give one out when you buy the game, or increase security, like password length, complexity or required to change after X number of days.

I guess I'm just sick of getting bombarded with gill spam, and I just started mining last night and saw at least 6 mining characters warping around from spot to spot.

SE is pretty firm on their stance on RMT, was bad at the start of XI, but eventually became unseen. Give them some time to focus on the game that just launched before they start dedicating resources for massive bans, which they have already started doing. You can already notice a difference, major change in the few shouts ive seen last night, and are switching to tell bots to try and hide from spam filters. Just blacklist and report. I remember in XI alot of people were afraid to buy gil because SE monitored currency being sent thru dbox. Will happen eventually here to

You're right, they made major strides in FFXI fighting RMT, but it took a while, and it wasn't until the game was almost ruined.

I'm sure they will get there, but it just grinds my gears when some people exploit a game that I'm trying to enjoy. I got a legit tell from a player last night needing help with something, but I kept getting gil spam tells in the middle of the conversation, so I would almost alt+r back to the spammer rather than the PC, GRRRRR.

Majority of RMT live in other countries, so its alittle less likely they will be caught and prosecuted for hacking your account. Account hacks happen on a regular basis in all MMOs, and using your suggestion, they dont need to use your credit card for anything. You say they should require a credit card on your account to make a character, so if they hack your account, they have your card on file and can make the charactwrs

blacklist and report, they are starting to do tell bots to avoid detection. If people dont report the tell bots, takes longer to identify as they cant verywell sit there and read all tells sent at every given minute.....they arent the NSA^^
