Every German and French that is younger than 40 years, knows English unless they slept in school. So yeah, choosing F and D is safe.

You'd be surprised... or MAYBE it's just because they choose not to talk to anyone or read for that matter. The best conversation I had was when I was trying to explain something to a German OT and he didn't reply until after the first wipe (obviously not reading) and his answer to me was "I'm not talking to you"... to me specifically... oh wow, great, awesome. Social skills ftw. I was just trying to be helpful and we had never met before. And that was the best I ever got as a reply, usually nothing, not even "hi".

Personal experience. Might just be me being extremely unlucky for 20ish Garuda runs.

Sidenote: I do talk to them in German and 50% of the time I get a normal conversation out of them. I think they just don't like English..idk, someone enlighten me how to talk to my own people.

Whenever I chose F and D they only spoken (or wanted to) that language. This happened multiple times so I just quit doing it.

If people are using Duty Finder to find groups, it really is not their place to decide who/what joins the group. What are they going to do? Leave? Ok. Someone will take their place unless it's a HM primal. But again, the Duty Finder is supposed to be there to create groups when you don't have your own pre-made. Pre-mades are for making your own rules for a group. not DF.

Sorry for necroposting, but I didn't want to start another thread about similar topic.

My question is; how does DF exactly work when selecting languages? I always leave F unselected ('cause I obviously don't speak a word of it), yet whenever I select J or D along E, I always, always end up in a french team. I very rarely get germans in my group and I think I've teamed up with 1-2 times with a japanese players post launch.

Now, I'm not crying myself a river for teaming with frenchies, I'm quite fine with it, the nationality of my teammates doesn't bother me, but I still find it very curious that the only language I don't select is the one I keep getting teamed up with.

Eh, people will complain you didn't search. Complain there are already threads and you shouldn't start a new one. And complain about necroposting when you DO search and find a thread already. Don't sweat it.

Perhaps the French players selected 'EF' in their DF.

I select all four. I can understand enough German and French to get by, and certainly with auto-translate and google as a last resort I can understand anything techinical.

I understand a little Japanese, but that is where google translate often fails: the language is so dissimilar to European ones, that even with google translate, I am often guessing. It helps knowing things like 'Bard' in Japanese means 'Poet' et cetera.

It's not a lie. Where does it say those buttons are for identifying your own language skills? As far as I can tell, the language buttons aren't for what languages you speak, but what languages you're willing to play with. I don't care if you only speak Swahili, as long as you know the fights and do your job.
