I'm pretty sure you're going into human psychology and you'd probably get better answers asking an expert in this subject. I don't think we can give you any satisfying answer other than "If they bother you, ignore them". That's the best solution.

For some people the game is the biggest thing going in their lives, so of course it's serious to them. I think those people are a very small minority though.
