Harassed over comment made in shout.

I was playing on one of my minor characters when I got tell bombed by gil sellers. In annoyance of this I made a comment about how much I hated spammers in shout. No one replied since it was about 7 am server time.

About 5 minutes later I get harassed by someone telling me I needed help because I had violent tendencies and went on this tangent that I had lacked maturity, I needed to grow up, and I could go to prison. While I shouldn't have I tried to engage him in the same manner he was addressing me.. and it only made the problem worse.

In the end I just blacklisted him after 5 minutes of him telling me how wrong/demented. I really don't understand why people will take a comment on the internet so seriously that they would harass you in game about it. Words on the internet might hurt your feelings but they can't provide you any physical harm or give you any insight about their mental state of mind.

It seems you learned a lesson: If someone whispers to you in such a manner, never ever try to reason or argue with them. Thats what they want (maybe need) and will make them continue... just try to ignore them... and if that does not work, b-list. ;-)

Sorry didn't mean it in a bad way, just saying it sounded like a blog post.

I'm pretty sure you're going into human psychology and you'd probably get better answers asking an expert in this subject. I don't think we can give you any satisfying answer other than "If they bother you, ignore them". That's the best solution.

For some people the game is the biggest thing going in their lives, so of course it's serious to them. I think those people are a very small minority though.
