Cool and thank you yes am also sure I have already seen this bonus as when killing things on my lower level classes it always says as the xp gain in chat gained 125exp (+50%) or sometimes 125exp (+150%) sort of like that so I must be already getting it and am yet to get a job .

I already knew about the resting states and rested xp and have been using food when I remember too lol .

Race has nothing to do with what city you start with (and hence, what intro you get), starting city (and hence, opening) is solely determined by what class you chose to start as - Limsa always starts you off on a ferry, because it's naturally a maritime state on an isolated island. Ul'dah and Gridania both start on a chocobo carriage.

You'll get the Limsa opening on the ferry if you start the game as either ACN or MRD. You get the Ul'dah opening if you start as GLA, THM or PGL, and the remaining classes (CNJ, LNC and ARC) give you the Gridania opening.

On CC, there are two types: Sleep and Bind. Both of them restrict monsters from doing certain things, and are broken if the monster is hit with any direct damage.

Sleep comes from CNJ (Repose) and THM (Sleep). THM additionally gets a trait to make Sleep hit everything in a 5-yalm radius. Sadly, many things resist sleep.

Bind comes from many sources. ARC has Shadowbind, which binds a single target. CNJ has Fluid Aura, which knocks a monster back and binds it, albeit for a mere 6 seconds. THM gets Blizzard II, which binds everything around the THM, but only for 4 seconds. Finally, SMN gets Tri-Disaster, which is a ranged AoE Bind. Bind works on most things, but it only restricts movement. As such, it will not help if the monster has a ranged attack, or if it's right next to the tank anyway.

On a side note, CC is only broken by DIRECT damage. Damage over time from debuffs like Aero will not wake/unbind them. Do take note, however, that most DoTs inflict some direct damage when applied, so for the most case it only helps with debuffs placed BEFORE the CC is applied. The exceptions are Bio, Bio II, Bane, Flaming Arrow, and Shadow Flare. All of these apply their debuff with no direct damage, and as such should not wake/unbind mobs.

Well I did start as a MRD and I am really sure I got the carriage ride intro but I may be mistaken I will create a new character and watch it again now ^^.

After watching the intro a few more times I do think something else occurred and I was wrong ^^.

I first created a Roegadyn GLD the evening I downloaded it and as it was late made the character watch the intro and logged off for bed then the next day I logged on decided I did not like the look and made a new character a Hyur MRD and logged in but did not pay as much attention to the start as I had done it the day before so I think that's where my confusion has come from .

Thanks for the help with that one anyway guys .

It says in that Active Help tutorial that it's proportional to the difference between your current class and your highest DoW/DoM class, but people who have tested it have said that it's actually a flat 50% bonus regardless of the number of levels apart they are. That sounds like the sort of bug that comes from developers changing their mind during development so one plan gets documented while the other gets implemented, but I'm not certain which is intended and which is the bug. (Which is intended could become significant if they later fix it by changing one or the other.)

if youlike having mulyiple classes, the best advise is to do this (with the assumption that you learn to do your job somrhow along the way):

    1. level a dps class via quest and storyline
    2. meanwhile, lvl a tank/healer class via dungeon

because many hate lvl-ing dps classes because it's a very grindy process, and it is v hard to queue for dungeons (some of which are compulsory for storyline progression) as dps, but almost instant if you are tank/healer. of course, as tank/healer you also have to be very familiar with the mechanics of the fights, so its more effort for u.

I've played with all the races and most of the classes. The intro you get is based on where your character begins. Everyone starting in limsa gets the pirate on the seas, Gridania the bandits from the roadside, ...huh seems like I've forgotten how Ul'dah starts out but I've only seen that intro once.

Both Ul'dah and Gridania effectively have the same scene of the carriage eventually getting stopped by a member of the local militia when the beastmen suddenly attack, causing the carriage to quickly flee (and the player narrowing their eyes at the battle taking place). Ul'dah's one though specifically shows how corrupt their militia really is (the Brass Blades), when one plants 'illegal herbs' (an apparent narcotic called 'somnus') on the merchant during the 'customs inspection' in order to extort him. Of course the amala'jaa interrupt it though and indirectly save the merchant's hide. But both openings are more or less the same.

Also, it should be noted much later in the game
when you join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, you can find out that all three merchants for each city's opening are in fact brothers, and are also members of the Scions, which I found ironic.
