    Fireflies & Death

Ok, sorry if my ignorance is showing, but I've noticed that in this game Fireflies and Death seem to be connected.
IE: The entrance to Tam Tara has skeletons and Fireflies. Then I just did the quest "Flowers for Aerghaemr", and theres fireflies around that grave.

So here's my question: What is the connection between fireflies and death? I can't find any history on this anywhere, so hoping someone here knows something.

    Thanks.

I believe that the fireflies are suppose to represent the souls of the dead--this would tie into a similar Japanese folklore about fireflies.

That would be a big tie-in with FFX's Pyreflies. Plausible.

It could be possible. When we fought Siren, did anyone notice some fireflies around? I can't remember. But that would have been an obvious place to have some fireflies around.

In any case, in the FATE that happens in the tunnel that connects Vesper Bay to Cape Westwind, Staying Dead, it is stated in the description that:

The restless spirits of fishers lost at sea have wandered back, unable to break their ties with the corporeal world. Purify these poor souls so that they may continue their journey into Thal's realm.
The enemies are bogies, which look like overgrown fireflies.

Yeah, I think the most sound explanation is that they are voidsent that are attracted to places of death, rather than actual fireflies.

Thanks for all your information. I was able to find this information because of what you provided me here:

    The Story of the Heike
It was a long feud between two big rival of samurai clans, Genji and Heike in the late Heian period. In a broader sense, it includes Hogen and Heiji disturbances but in a narrow sense.

It began in 1180 when Minamoto no Yoritomo revolted at Ishibashiyama after a demand of prince Mochihito to punish the Heike. After the loss of the Fujigawa battle, the Heike gave up the capital in Kyoto and retreated to Western Japan, their power base.

Then they lost Ichinotani and Yashima battles and ended in the famous battle at Dan-no-ura in 1185. The remaining families of the Heike in Western Japan lived secluded in the mountain areas.

They are all proud to be the descendants of the Heike clan and when they go see the fireflies, it is like seeing the souls of their dead ancestors.

So I think that's the answer I was looking for.

Hate to derail some good theorizing, but I can help you with part of this using one of my favorite threads in the archives - one of the very Pre-Lore-Forum posts that made Fernehalwes a household name for loremongers: Insects and Energies

Fireflies are just fireflies. They're vilekin (insects).

That doesn't mean there's not more to it - they often are in tombs, around graves, etc. but ... they're bugs.

Then maybe we should be talking about Wisps rather than fireflies.
