I'm having a real hard time with the game design logic. I complete a quest and I get "rewarded" with damaged gear. I can't equip it because it's damaged. "Well, that's not very rewarding, I guess I'll get it repaired", I think. I try different merchants to repair the item (right click on the item) and I keep getting the same error message that this item can only be repaired by a leatherworker. Seems straight forward enough... I go to the leatherworkers guild... FULL of leatherworking NPCs, none of them can repair anything!? <LOGIC TRAINWRECK>. I'm search the ingame help section, searched the forums, downloaded the "Libra Eorzea app". The word "repair" just doesn't seem to exist. If the objective is to starve players of the information to preform menial tasks, then this is an epic triumph! The first hour I was thinking I could sign up for this. Then it became a masterpiece of frustration.

The gear you are rewarded is never rewarded damaged so you are attempting to repair the wrong gear sorry.

And you need to go to a repair NPC listed on your map by a Hammer Icon

There is no quest that rewards you with damage gear. That said, the repair NPCs are marked with a tool icon on your map. When you had your first fight there was a tutorial that popped up on your screen explaining this, unless you disabled them, or skipped past it.

Also, according to your profile, you're only level 4. You will be wearing your starting gear until 5. There is no gear or weapon you can equip that you did not start with before then, unless you pre-ordered and got a special head piece, which it doesn't sound like you did.

Well only thing I can think of if you are too low level or have a reward for a different class than one you are using then the item (gear) would have a red x on it and to some may think it needs repairing but all it is you don't meet the requirements for the gear

Also in this game the guys that repair gear are called menders

I think his issue was what I said the little red x on gear is a bit of a throw off to some not knowing it means you don't meet the requirements and not that it's broken .

yea I think hes trying to put on lvl 5 gear from quest rewards while hes not lvl 5 yet... lol.
What game would ever award damaged gear for quest reward rofl.

To be honest I clearly remember that I started a new character and I was surprised because in a way the game referred to the rewarded gear as damaged (literally) indeed. Not sure what it meant, because it was really too confusing. Especially having played the game a bit with my main character already.
