    AF/Relics for classes? why not?

    so from the words of the Dev Director himself
    the classes are supposed to be more suited for solo and jobs more suited for party.
    (before you flame me think about that, it is what he said)
    that being the case I have to ask this.
    why do the classes not have Artifact and Relic gear?

    some abilities that don't get passed on to the jobs would be nice too

    In 1.0 there was class only gear, but it's for both now. Gryphonskin/Vanya/Darksteel, etc, and the ilvl 70 crafted Weapons like Sarnga or Obelisk, all were Class only in 1.0. Now it's either both, or Job only.

    I was more thinking that individual classes should each get their own gear sets and weapons
    for instance CNJ should get a set similar to WHM AF but with stats better suited for solo and a weapon better suited for solo as well
    you know. class specific equipment

    my point is, the jobs are being treated like evolutions when the dev director bastically said they were more for party situations and classes more for solo situations therefore they are not evolutions and the classes should be getting gear and abilities specifically for them

    not to mention virtually everything I have seen that seems like special equipment for classes is not class specific but specific to the type of class such as diciples of magic or disciples of war

    The answer is that the class/job system is a relic from 1.0 that should have been done away with, classes were/are seldom used for solo, especially when most jobs offer such valuable abilities that are rarely worth giving up.
    Classes are an afterthought at this point.

    so you say, but I have looked at the differences, classes can use more cross skill/spells than jobs can and jobs dont really have all that much to make up for those restrictions

    besides that the director himself actually said he wanted more definition between classes and jobs than 1.0 had so I would think if that were true the devs wouldnt treat the classes as an after thought at all. would be nice to hear input from them on this

    ive seen the difference between a gladiator and a paladin in brayflox and it's stunning how fast a gladiator goes down compared to a pld...
    i'd consider it on monk though till 40 because heavy shot + internal release.

    I think for healers and tanks the difference is quite big as you get skills that directly benefit to tanking or healing. dps classes the difference might be in some cases lower. All in all the way the system is currently they might just removed the whole classes and just went with jobs if there is no point using a class over a job.

    PLD->GLA loses a ton of defensive abilities.
    WAR->MRD loses lots of self heals
    SCH->ACN loses literally all purpose
    SMN->ACN makes your pets weaker
    WHM->CNJ loses lots of healing spells and Holy
    I could go on. Let's not even talk about the fact that the job crystal gives you +10 all stats and +20 to your main, so you'd be losing all those, too.
