Geting armor in this game doesn't feel very rewarding

So I'm level 42 on my summoner/scholar/arcanist and 45 on my paladin, finally got the armor I've been looking forward to since i started the game, galant armor; used to see all these high level players wearing it and got excited to looking forward to the day I'd be able to get mine, the thrill. The quest was way too easy, didn't feel like I earned it, my excitement was crushed like a deflated balloon. The quest to get all the pieces went by way too fast, I was surprised at how easy it was to get everything minus the bp that comes later.

I was shocked when I found out that you can get darklight armor using tokens and it drops from bosses, where's the challenge that gives players a sense of reward.

Running dungeons before 45 to get gear drops is super tasking and then boom you're giving me a free set that just replaced all these pieces I spent days/weeks farming for, I mean come on that doesn't seem right.

Why do so many things in this game feel out of place and backwards

Because it is a new game, and a step up from FF11 I presume was SE intentions.

Make AF hard to acquire: people complain that they can't get their "iconic" look because it's too hard.
Make AF easy to acquire: people complain their "iconic" look was too easy and negates previously earned gear.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Protip: Nothing you "earn" in the game has any value because it's a game. Even BIS gear will be replaced by the next tier of BIS gear.

    Welcome to MMO's.

In the current mainstream all your gear is worthless because in 6-12months it will all be replaced...

It is a bad design concept that everyone for some reason adopted.

And I agree nothing really feels all that rewarding in XIV currently. The game is a 100% gear hand out. Even in Coil 100% 2 BIS pieces per win.

MMOS use to not be like this nor should they be now.

This seems to only be seen as bad design to diehard XI fans. Me personally (also a XI vet) hated the fact that gear that was BIS in 2002, was still BIS in 2007. With each expansion stagnated at 75 they kept adding more and more incremental side grades and incredibly niche situational gear. That the desire to squire new gear began to dry up as the only real drive eventually was that new gear looked different. I'd rather gear get replaced than for it to get stale

EDIT: to make a long story short I hated that by the time I quit XI in 2008 I was still using the Same gear I had been using since NA launch

But just being handed things for showing up is so much fun! It's like we're all on the Oprah set when she's giving away brand new cars!

But I'd also like to know who thought button mashing, not in a fun way like action, fighting or even old school beat 'em up games, but in the boring 1-2-3 way would actually be an entertaining combat system.
Or repeated mindless fetch quests over and over and over again would somehow be exciting and adventurous.
Or having a "massive multiplayer" game that doesn't require communication at all.
I also noticed a lack of memories and emotions. The game(and genre), probably mostly because of the handouts, doesn't evoke any emotions or memorable experiences at all. It's all very monotonous and mechanical. Which is probably part of why people MMO hop so much now. No emotional attachment.

    New MMOs suck. :\

To get the AF gear was a bit harder in 1.0
Like AF chests behind the middle boss in Dzemael (the ogre), AF chests in Arum Vale that you could only enter after you finished the Dzemael quest and an interesting end fight in the lv50 quest for the body AF.

I think the difficulty would be ok if SE did at least the last 2 quests as party quests.

I felt the same disappointment when I got my AF gear. As I leveled up I did each dungeon 2-3 times to get better gear than what I could get from single player quest rewards.
Then I did an easy single player quest and replaced most of my dungeon gear. Instead of feeling like a reward, I felt like the game was broken and FFXIV hadn't finished making the class quests.

I think it would have been ok if earning AF was spread out, and I replaced one piece at a time. (Maybe there could be 1 quest per level starting at level 45 to outfit the player with AF? Or a quest chain that gives another piece of AF for each dungeon run starting at level 45?)
