Yea, this is why I don't use my unicorn. It's just ugly - texture and model-wise - compared to other options. The visuals feel roughed in, not finished quite like other things. The coloring and details look very flat, one dimensional. Animations while riding it are stiff too for the player atop. It's missing a sense of fluidity and grace, both which are important regarding a unicorn.
The original Final Fantasy had a Monster named Crazy horse/mad pony that clearly had a Unicorn sprite not unlike how the mount looks, Dawn of Souls even added a palette swap of the crazy horse called unicorn to the extra dungeon whisperwind cove.
It also is a Summon in FFV and FFVI
Everyone still arguing that unicorns are "not final fantasy", i hereby confiscate your FF-fan Cards.
My only issues with the Unicorn are that the animations just seem very off not to mention the unicorn isn't quite as nifty looking as other Unicorns in other games and FF games. Severe armor clipping also is off-putting, something immediately noticeable for any CNJ/WHM that doesn't side saddle.
The clipping is there even on chocobos, coeurls, magitek, ahriman and anything else that's added down the line. My only problem with the unicorn are the eyes, they look rather bulgy to me. Aside from that, it's an interesting mount. Would I ride it? Heck no, not intimidating enough for me. I ride a goobbue! Where's your Gods now?!
The only thing i hate about the unicorn mount is the tail is too high, looks like its trying to take a dump permanently to me.
I always have a good laugh when I see a Roegadyn on a unicorn xD
I don't use it because it doesn't have Erasure playing in the background like it should.
Unicorns a-go!
Truth be told, I hated the things at first. Thought they looked ridiculous, but this has been my go-to mount since I got it. The other mounts seem a bit choppy/jerky in the way that they run and that annoyed me more than the silliness of the unicorn.
The problem with the unicorn, and mounts in general, is that the female characters don't ride them in a ladylike manner. Riding sidesaddle rather than astride would be more appropriate.
I like that the miqo'te don't ride them all dainty-like, but then it leads to panty flashes, as shown above, if you're wearing a skirt![]()
