    Red Mage

One of the trademark jobs of the franchise, the Red Mage is a tough class to implement well enough to please it's fans.

This has always been a sort of Jack of all Trades class, which doesn't really suit an MMO environment. What slot would it fill? Melee Damage, Magic Damage or Healing? The solution to this is the mechanic that should have been implemented into the scholar job for offensive and healing magic.

The job should fill a Dps party slot and revolve around the rotation of three buffs.

•Casting Healing Magic would grant a stacking bonus to the next physical or magic damage attack.

•Casting Offensive Magic would grant a stacking bonus to the next physical ability or healing spell.

•Using Physical Abilities would grant a stacking bonus to the next offensive or healing spell.

This would allow for the multi-functionality of the Red Mage without making them either too strong or too weak in each respective area.

Sounds like a Warlord play-style to me. I welcome the class if it's added. Should add it to tank category instead, we are currently lacking tank so much.

Yeah... Red Mage is one class that makes me wish the Square Enix hadn't chosen to use the "trinity" roles system. It makes red mage so much harder to balance in the game. If it were added, personally, I'd put it in with the dps roles. It's just how the class has always felt to me since FF1. It would probably be a more support-dps like the bard should've been. Although, I wouldn't mind another healing class being added into the game.

Yeah, definitely a dps role. The system I mentioned would just allow them to throw in some clutch heals without their dps falling off too severely, as healing would also add to the potency of the next damaging ability.

No please, no red mage. Was utterly broken in FF XI, no need a redo.

So any class that was broken in another game can not be changed and molded to fit this game?

Pretty bad reasoning TBH, and I'm putting that politely.

IDK what you mean by Utterly broken. Too good or too bad? Cause in the early years, yah it was too good. in the later years? Its a pile of suck. Frankly they couldn't balance it for crap. but FFXI was a huge mess of unbalanced jobs. FFXIV so far is not, so as it stands, I don't see how they could fudge up RDM any in a game with such basic Copy>Paste Fighting mechanics.

I severely doubt Red Mage could be on the level of Pre-ToAU broken due to the lack of skills and the way how DRs work in this game. Anything Red Mage did in XI would be extremely neutered if not just plainly impossible in XIV.

I can see RDM as a DPS role whose primary focus will be on debuffs.

Honestly though, I'll most likely main it regardless of what they decide to do with it. Unless, of course, it's poorly implemented. I'm choosing to stay positive about it, though.

Sounds like unnecessary complication. They could take it back to old school (well, at least FF5).
Can use lower level Magic skills as to not impede on healers and magic dps.
But power comes from quick casting (which can be proc based via melee attacks) and double casting (which can be consumable buff based like aether). So it may not be uber burst, but has fast steady magic + melee dps.

Wouldnt want it to be a debuffer as they have a multitude of other jobs in FFDom that can fulfill that role to a better ability.

Another option would be that it could take the Mystic Knight role. Enchanting its weaponry with elements that yield different effects per strike.
Fire burn, Ice slow, Lightning stun, etc. and could have combination element attacks that deals a combo attack (think Riftblades in Rift, just not as stupidly OP)
