    Thief Job

Definitely on the list of most anticipated jobs to be added, this could either be implemented either really well, or very poorly.

I'm a little worried that if and when Thief finally arrives it's going to stray too far from it's roots, and be nothing more than a generic "MMO Rogue."

Thief (according to several polls that I am way too lazy to find and cite) was one of the most beloved jobs from FFXI, and it wasn't because it followed the tracks of the "Rogue MMO trope." Thief stood apart from the standard dagger playstyle in that it wasn't a straightforward backstab spam class. It had a lot of utility.

Please don't turn Thief into a generic MMO rogue that Stealths around DoTing, Backstabbing, and Stunning. Save that for the Assassin Job; many of us thief fans are purists.

•I'd really like to see the Trick Attack mechanic make a return to differentiate it from the games current "rear or flank" classes. Yes, it would be difficult to position, but on the return it would have a much higher damage multiplier.

Steal or Mug is a definite must.

Weapon buffs to add status effects would be a nice addition, since swapping weapons wouldn't really work in this game.

Treasure Hunter, to occasioanally add Bronze Pieces to enemy encounters.

•A Triple Attack proc mechanic (the other melee classes so far have all been heavy on cooldowns and rotations. It'd be nice to see a melee class with similar playstyle to BLM in the sense that dps revolves around procs and ability priority.)

It has to have stealth or it will play like monk.

Yoshida have said that no class will have a stealth.
that the trouble with the monk actually, when you play it, you are playing a thief using him fist and a combo system. mostly because you only attack from side and back.
now the question is how they will make different the two jobs, the best answer is take out of the monk the side and back attack and focus more on the combo system. like this the two class will look and feel different!

I feel like a proc and priority style play style would differentiate it quite a bit. The Trick Attack mechanic, for those of you that don't know, was a positioning mechanic whereas standing behind another player and hitting the mob would increase the damage 10 fold, placing all of its generated threat onto the player in between.

I can see trolls using this to throw aggro onto the melee dps, so it may only be feasible to allow it to work off of tanking classes, alone.

The damage should be very high, and the balancing factor would be the risk of standing in cleaving/breath range of the mob.

A combination of Trick Attack and an ability like Dodge (Evade the next three attacks), could be used in tandem to allow safe positioning of the attack.

Either Poison DoT ticks or auto attacks could potentially have a chance to proc Triple Attack, causing the next ability to strike three times.

An ability to steal enemy buffs could make a nice tool, and a good alternative to the monk's dispel.

Take all that was mentioned and throw in "Steal Attack Power" or
"Steal Defense" and you have a pretty good foundation for a playable job while keeping to tradition of the classic FF thief.

I agree I like the look, story, combos, buffs system, and the CD's of the monk. I hate the attacks a lot it plays like a theif style class which I don't like. Now the theif needs stealth or your suggestion to work or just be a monk with a dagger.

I find that hard to believe, but this skepticism is coming from a long-time FFXI THF who had to LFG for hours to exp because no one wanted THF as their first choice for a party member. Most people just cared about leveling it for their subjob. Maybe THF popularity boosted once the more recent job ability additions were added in the past several years, but it sure as hell didn't feel "beloved" very much.
