I'm honestly not seeing how alternating between a bunch of instant Ohh shit buttons is good design.

I'm sorry the edit function is not working. But TP is spent on core abilities that we dont have a choice in. Our mana can only be spent on one skill. Our cooldowns cost nothing and have zero downsides. There is no actual tactical choice. Its all pre determined. Flash scorn flash. Harlone can only be achieved with the same generic combo.

That's pretty much the design for every class. Fairly strict rotation with illusion of choice.

It's definitely not bad design. At the very least it's giving you something to manage (you complained about not enough resource management as I outlined before). It forces you to make choices. Have you entered Turn 4 or 5 yet? There's a reason why PLD has so many "Oh shit" buttons. It's also the reason why WAR tanks are less desired.

Cooldowns aren't meant to cost anything. They come with a taxing reuse time so you can't use them at whim. There's definitely tactical choice in using them. That's what separates the good PLD from the bad. I watched a Coil group yesterday do Turn 2 and they repeatedly wiped because their PLD didn't know when to use his CDs (it was actually really bad on his part).

I do agree with you that I'd like to see more MP abilities.

If you want to see something more in the realm of "bad design" take a look at Warrior. They have 1 threat generation rotation, and 1 rotation that restores their HP. Pretty sure it's intended that they use their health restoration rotation while tanking but if they use it too often they will generate a lot less threat than a PLD.

Seriously, PLD has it pretty good atm. If you want to complain about bad design... play a Warrior. :/

I don't mind the amount of abilities we have. The only thing I don't like is that instant abilities aren't instant and that's already got a massive thread about it so I won't go into that.

But I would have to agree that we have a terrible selection of magic. I loved my PLD in 11, but as it stands now, my PLD in 14 is very dry with very little difference than what the archtype of "knight" usually is in games.

Cure is awful, I crit a 300 cure the other day, 200 being my standard heal. Out of an HP pool of almost 5k, 200 is negligible, and its negligible on most people. Yes people will argue it could save someone, yes that whole surviving with 10 hp thing while possible is incredibly hard to foresee when it's going to happen.

As it stands, PLD is a poor addition to GLD as you get some vit boost, and access to abilities that match up with GLD more than PLD. No magic or anything of that nature. Just straight sword and board, spank and tank attitude. I do enjoy flash, but thats the only real spell we get.
