    Few Questions

    Hi,

I have been playing for about 10 days, really enjoying the game so far, i have two questions though that i can't seem to find an answer to

1/Targetting system: I don't really understand it, i play on the PC with KB/M, and i am "used" to tab targetting/assist, however in this game, it always target some critters that have no relation whatsoever to the quest i am on or isn't aggroed (in dungeons this is infuriating ).

I tried to change Tab key to "target nearest ennemy" but then it just get stuck on 1 mob and won't change unless i get really close to another one.

Ennemy list: Watching vids on youtube, somehow when the tank pulls the list fills up on their videos, while in my case i have to manually target them, cast a spell on them to have them show up. Really not handy as if i do that i feel like i give the tank extra work :s.

Is there some settings i am missing? (i tried filters but doesn't seem to have an effect.)

    Thanks in advance

Second question: Why does the game chat feels sooo empty.. all i see is some gil spammers and once in a while a Fate party advert.. Unlike other MMOs there is no discussion, not even a slight bickering for the laugh.. Is this personnal bias or are people chatting somewhere else ?

About the chat, it varies. In big cities you have to fight against the spam, if people don't have them blacklisted, but other zones it can be so random. Some times not a peep, other times it's so crazy you can't keep up. People also chat a lot on different linkshells and with their free company.

I'm assuming your first targeting issue is targeting Arcanist/Summoner/Scholar pets, which is a known issue and should be fixed in the next patch. Right now the game considers them enemies-but-not-really for targeting purposes and so they are given high priority for whatever reason.

The tab option changes the target to the next one from left to right. It doesn't matter if its a 1000 meters away or 1 meter. To help with that, I usually position my camera so only the current set of enemies is in view. A top-down view is used in the most extreme cases such as open-world FATEs with a lot of non-FATE adds. It's harder to do on some dungeon runs than others as well. In the worst case scenario, you select a target to the left witha mouse and just tab to it quickly. The developers have discussed that they want to change it, but I have no idea how yet.

I haven't used the enemy list yet, although I think it lists the targets you have hit already. Tanks will usually use a skill called 'flash' or 'overpower' when tanking. This is an aoe aggro-generating attack that prevents healers and dps from pulling aggro on them. Because they always open up with this and intentionally target every enemy, you might get the idea the enemy list is different for them. It really isn't.

That kind of activity depends on the players, server, and time. It is usually a specific subset of players who do open world chats. You just have to find out what times they are online and where they are. It's most common for players at endgame who are just waiting for dungeon queues or are otherwise bored. You'll see more of it as more players reach end-game. I'm not certain about the Lich server, but ul'dah is usually a hub for social players (it is very central to the entire map). Limsa and Gridania are much quieter.

Thanks for the answers guys, especially Anova i understand better now and as i play zoomed out fully that's probably why i get so many mobs through the cycling.. I'll try to focus the camera more when needed. cheers!

The reason why the tank fills up with the entire group is that, if they take the first action against the group, all the other enemies that come with it make him their primary target, and the hotbar has them show up to say "This enemy is targeting you" The reason you have to hit them individually is because when you're not the tank, the monsters do not care about you at the start. If the tank were to die (and you weren't right in front of the mob), they wouldn't go after you but rather head back to where they were pulled. You need to get at least some enmity on the mob in order for it to care about you, then it will show up.

On a side note, an easy way to target enemies is to use the F-keys to target the tank (So, if he's in the second slot that'd be F2,) then press "T" to target the tank's target, which should be the enemy being focused on.

This is embarassing, but I forgot to mention this important tidbit I use too. You can change which targets are selected while you are in combat.

It is under Character Configuration -> Filters

Change it to your preferred settings
