i love this post. i sux at typing like this. but the point i wanted to makeBe careful what you ask for. 'Sexy' means very different things in different cultures.
In Japanese entertainment it generally means innocent/naive/shy looking girls with thematic costumes, cutesy expressions, peekaboo clothing and blushing when they are caught in compromising positions.
In Western gaming its a giant-breasted, tattooed porn-star wearing little more than a drugged out "just-f***-me" expression and wielding one or more weapons.
As far as I'm concerned, anything beyond FFXII's level sexyness is OTT. There are hundreds of other games with gratuitous boob physics, skimply costumes and cybering out there... or better yet, try building a relationship with someone in real life rather than getting your sexual jollies off of a video game.

ffxiv already has mithra strippers and slutty npcs and streetwalkers who offer you a good time, so its not like a -huge- step up to stick in some "sexyness"
Its not like im suggesting they create a new job class called distractor where a girl in a cute skimpy outfit or guy with a subligar tanks a mob by distracting it with her/his.....
girls != women. as a woman, i do not need "sexy" or "revealing" clothing to make my gaming experience more enjoyable. i don't find the practice of "woman as sex object" appealing in video games. i want my character to look kick ass, not "kick ass in a g-string."Everyone seems to be suggesting UI modification, more content, fixing the battle system, etc. But is that what really sells a game? While it is important, i believe SE and its user base have overlooked the most important aspects of a successful MMO. And with that being said, here are my very professional and well-thought out ideas:
1. Release miniskirts, bikini tops and bottoms, corsets, pretty dresses, scene hair, and whips for female classes.
why?: Revealing clothing will work great in advertisements to attract the average male gamer. Further, school girl outfits and cos play special event costumes will appeal to many people who like anime.
On the other hand, girls will have the opportunity to dress up and make their girl characters pretty. What girl wouldn't want to beat up a squirrel in a princess dress or attractive corset? If the accessories in the game are made to look prettier, girls can accessorize as well (hairbows, those cute elastic shape bracelets, cute earrings, etc)
2. put in a love story!!! Make it epic and corny but cute. This will attract hundreds of teen girls. Make sure the guy is really hot. If the dev team is scared that they can't pull this off, using a vampire that looks 17 but is really 100, and a werewolf , is always a safe move.
why?: Girls love cute love stories. Don't believe me? Go to twilight movie premier. Some guys love it too. But point being is if you stick a long vampire quest line into the story a lot of girls will play just to finish it.
3. Allow in-game marriage.
Why?: this will increase in-game relationships and in-game drama. And drama and relationships gets people coming back because they want to be a part of it.
4. more cute mobs and pets and stuff!!
Why?: Who doesn't like cute things. Fluffy moogles should be active in cities. You should be able to get cute pets and have cuddle motions. like the more cute stuff the better.
So if SE wants FFXIV to be successful, i think these are the best ways to do it.
Imagine a FFXIV banner with a cute mithra with a whip and in a bikini fighting a dragon.... who wouldn't want to try that?
Or a princess elvaan falling for a vampire hume. scandalous!
Seriously though, i bet you if they implemented these things the game would probably take off.... I'm not sure if that's good or really sad.
i welcome some cuteness though.

If I wanted to see my character in skimpy clothing, then I would just put on my subligar and my harness, thanks.
I don't need to hear little teenage girls screaming "OMG SEPHIROTH IS SO HOT! OMGGGGGGGGGGG I WANT TO BE HIS WIFEY!" Let's leave them with twilight.
If this love story is located somewhere in Mor Dhona, then we're good.
I'm all up for pets, but I don't want to die of diabetes. A little cute is good, but too much is disgusting.
You might want to look into PWI, my friend plays it and it seems to be exactly what you're looking for.
there still is a difference if a game has strippers or if 70% of the people in the game run around like strippers...ffxiv already has mithra strippers and slutty npcs and streetwalkers who offer you a good time, so its not like a -huge- step up to stick in some "sexyness"

Thats the feeling i have with most boob-mmos.
If i want porn then i watch it... but if i wanna play ffxiv i dont want a boob-fest... i want a final fantasy game.
sex- as a PART of a game is ok, even realistic (hookers in a bar, or strippers, etc.) but haveing a huge boob-camp is way too much. And believe me, as soon as you give people the options they will make it. BIGGER BIGGER and ... there you have BoobyFantasy XIV...

looking at one of the bigger cities in PWI for a longer time really makes you scream, i hated it... you see colours you didnt even know they exist... its horrible, blinky blinky shiny everywhere, pets everywhere. it feels like a kiddy store close to x-mas... and you cant escape it...

not sure how many more ways it can be said, but your suggestion is at a level of 10....... where a level of 3 would be perfect for this game.
Your wanting way to much cute/sexy in a game that does not warrant it, or would benefit from it.

This game is not even close to FF12s level.
go look at your gear options, how many of the gears even come off as feminine. I remember female players who picked elvann complaining that most of thier gear looked mannish.
The game already has a decent cute factor, you got spriggans, lalafel, squireels etc, but as long as its optional, its fine.
Asking for a love story, somewhere in an RPG isnt crazy talk, almost every form of successful fiction has some type of romantic undertone. Heck even picard on star trek had some action from time to time. Keep in mind although this is an rpg we have virtually no story, and even less charachter driven story going on. That in and of itself is a problem. If they want this game to appeal to a mass market of console people, as they said was thier intent, they need to look at what they have done from ff1-ff13 regarding full stories, and massively appealing looks.
this game falls pretty far back in terms of most of the staple things that made FF a sucessful franchise. There is no way they can capture a offline rpg market with this game until it competes with an offline rpg in entertainment factor. This includes having cutesy things like baby chocobos, stories that involve some level of romance, or some emotion at all, levels that are designed well and engaging, progression that seems like a natural exploration of the game, some amount of feminine looking charachters, and exciting special moves.
Yeah its all designed to to appeal to people, why is so much of this game not designed to appeal to people.
