This is not supposed to be a clone of FF11, guys. Let's try not to use 11's content as examples for ideas. Unless it's really, really, really good. (Like Abyssea.)

Good lord no to questing to raise level cap.

Developers of other games have occasionally done some sort of reference to previous games they've worked on. While I don't really WANT Maat in this game, I wouldn't care as long as there was some sort of explanation as to why he was there. I don't see it happening though.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

I don't agree with level cap quests, but I do agree with a sort of fight.
I would do it at the end of each job's specific storyline. I've been conjuring what Red Mage job-specific questlines might be like, including unlocking the job or becoming an entry-level guy in their fold (depending on whether you have to unlock jobs or you can just start using those as soon as they're implemented in the game), AF quests and the quest at the end to prove your skill versus the master Red Mage (which in my drafts is a plainsfolk lalafell named Homel Romel...my lala is a dunesfolk named Duelle, by the way, so no self-insertion or anything).
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

I did not have a "love-hate" relationship with Maat. I only hated him.
I do not like lvl cap fights. They are usually just too frustrating and I have to buy another controller and/or keyboard.
Before anyone yells "easy-mode-casual-lamer=go-away" at me, I have a suggestion...a compromise if you will...
...do not hinder Class Progression with a fight/quest but instead Unlock Content with a fight/quest.
Example 1): At R50 a Party Based Dungeon/Instance becomes available. You would need to "pass the test to prove your proficiency" in order to unlock the content and thus prove to those you would party with that you are indeed worthy. Each Class should have a unique fight that truly tests ones skills like a Boss that randomly alternates elemental and physical weaknesses so you have to properly time the proper spells & weapon skills.
If you fail the test, you can still rank up and try again at 51 , 52, 53...60 for me probably. With Level-Synch in the Dungeon it wouldn't matter except for the shame but we can't all be awesome, all of the time. You will have to pass the test for each Class, however to use that Job in the Dungeon.
Example 2): is actually the same as ex. #1 except it is the Grand Company you cannot join untill you "pass the tests" of the Crafting Guilds, but again you can still rank up till you do pass.
Example 3): is also the same as #'s 1 & 2 except it is Some Big Huge Open World Event (in several areas) where parties and singles all fight together and apart as long as they "pass the test"...however long it takes me...I mean you...I mean them.
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.

Thanks! Someone who understood my point. =)Enough saying we trying to make this FFXI-2 here a hint FFXIV is a copy of FFXI a from day 1 with the race, city and somewhat storyline. The op just trying to get something fun and we all enjoy from ffxi and add to it to ffxiv. It does not have to be 100% same. Final fantasy copy from the other game take what they had best remake it and resell it to us with better storyline better gameplay and overall better game so enough.
We need to learn from ffxi add everything it had and make it 10x better and remake it into a new system and maybe this game would be somewhere up there with ffxi.

instead of having a level cap that has to be unlocked i like the idea of getting all the skills and abilites by doin a questline, mission, including fights, also group content. That would give a lot of options for additional fun content.
So basicly you COULD be lvl 55 with just leveling but you would miss all nice new abilites and traits if you didnt bother with the quests at all.
To prevent people from skipping it after futher lvl cap increases. They would have to be mandatory to begin the lvl 60+ quests and so on.
So its like genkai quests but you can make them more varied and it would be more logical to be able to lvl further but lack the skills, which you do the quests/missions for.
Perhaps every questline gives a key item as well that together opens up other ways of character improvement in the 75ies or 99ies (depending on what cap they are planning to be the max cap for a while)
All this talk about Maat... if you're going to have some story detailed character that plays any type of pivotal role in the lives/level progression of characters, it should most definitely be Cid. Talk about a FF staple. Where is good 'ol Cid?

I'd like to see the team revisit 'unlocking' by way of quests every 5-10 levels or so. I hate to say it but in a way, saying no to this, is just another way of saying no to new content and the prospect of a way to add lore to the game. Now these quests don't have to be huuuuge time sinks, or impossible to do alone. They could just mean trips around the game, speaking to NPC's in places you wouldn't normally go.
I didn't like Maat due to the lag and the impossibility of leveling in XI without playing for 24 hours a day. I had tried it, and the worst part was the Rare/ex scroll you had to get before you could even challenge him. If you lost, you had to go out and farm another one. I thought this was ridiculous and, because I couldn't play for many hours a day, I had to do one or the other and with help.
The way XI did it wasn't a poor choice, it was actually very good. And unlike XI, I think it's perfect for this game. We go through content so quickly, and level just as fast, it'd be a nice way to slow the hardcore gamers down at least a few hours longer than not having it would.
URR NO NOTHING FROM FFXI PLZ DAT WUD MAKE DIS AN FFXI CLONE 100% DURR!!!!
In all seriousness, I always hoped that Maat would make a cameo in FFXIV. He's an awesome character and I thought it was a great touch that the final limit break (at the time) meant finally having a one-on-one with the old man.
