I remember in an older letter that Yoshi P was talking about roaming primals, and whatever FC killed the primal could then "use its powers in battle." Does anyone else remember this? It sounded like a really cool idea.

Too busy fixing the servers
Won't happen right away. They will stay as they are for a while before that happening. ie once newer, harder content comes out kind of thing.
That's too bad because I would have love to see doom train appear in Central Thanalan. You know, give some of the newbies a good scare.
Well You have Odin in Black Shroud who is definitely a primal, and you have Behemoth in coerthas who is categorized as a primal despite not being one in past games.
What happened to a lot of things >.< I guess its all coming eventually lol
We got the first piece of news on this in over a year a while back, it is a few updates off:
[Source]It is possible that Free Companies will have the ability to summon their own Primal (FATE?) battles in this patch. No concrete details have been announced though. If not 2.2 then possibly 2.3.
Imagine Odin and Behem... we still cannot see them with all the lag and players around.
Highly recommend SE solve that problem first.

Let's see...
August 2013 - 2.0
November 2013 - 2.1 (11.14.13 - Lightning FATE)
February 2014 - PS4 beta (2.22.14), potential 2.2?
May 2014 - potential 2.3? (DX11 client?)
So it will either be Valentine's Day or May Day (Beltane)...
